Stony Rose Farms

6 sites · RVs, Tents38 acres · Kingston, NY
Stony Rose Farms is located in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley. Our area has a rich farming heritage and our land was once part of a much larger farm. We purchased the land in February of 2020 and have created our own off grid paradise full of chickens, flowers, bees and lots of different types of plants. We are NOT a commercial campground, we are a working farm that offers Agrotourism stays and experiences. Our hens and roosters play an important role in the sustainable agricultural practices we use on the farm. Our lovely ladies provide us with delicious and colorful eggs each day. Your breakfast at the farm can't get any fresher... sunny side up eggs dripping yolk onto fresh local bread, fresh melons and berries still warm from the sun, sweet honey and local milk in your coffee. A true farm to table meal is possible year round in our beautiful valley! Most weekends we offer a breakfast basket filled with goodies produced on our farm or by other local growers. The back of our property is also wooded. If you are quiet you are certain to see birds, squirrels, chipmunks, turkey and deer as you walk along the creek and explore the mossy rocks and tiny waterfalls. If you follow the marked bushwack trail you'll be guided over fallen trees and through breaks in historic stone walls, then across the creek and up the hill you will come out onto the O&W Rail Trail. This 27 mile trail is perfect for hiking, biking and strolling. In some segments it is smoothly paved and others it is gravel. From this trail you can access multiple parks, libraries and museums if you are looking for a long hike or ride. We are centrally located between Kingston, Kerhonkson, Woodstock and New Paltz and all are about a scenic 20 minutes drive. The NYS Thruway is less than 10 minutes away if you are traveling through. The Rondout Valley is home to multiple breweries, amazing restaurants, luxurious spas, places to kayak, fish, swim, rock climb... or you could spend your entire visit at the farm reading a good book and enjoying beautiful sunsets. PLEASE NOTE: -We are a working farm that uses sustainable organic methods. -There are bugs (ants, ticks, bees, mosquitos, etc) -We keep the grass at the campsites short but you will have long grass around you. That long grass is home to numerous kinds of birds that only live in that type of habitat. - Poison ivy is also possible when out in nature, we do NOT spray any chemicals on ANY of our land. -The sites are within earshot to the chicken coops, we DO have roosters and you WILL hear them. -There are wild animals around the farm. You should store away all food and garbage when you are not at the campsite. We would like to keep them cautious of humans and not a nuisance! -On holiday weekends we do have a minimum night stay.

The Mountain Top @Wright's Farm

5 sites · RVs, Tents450 acres · Gardiner , NY
It all started when grandfather Charles B Wright first establish this farm in 1904. He purchased it for its natural springs. In our barn (now home to Gardiner Brewing Company) he had gravity fed water troughs for his cattle. Since then we have slowly switched from animals to tree fruit. You will enjoy rolling hills of fruit trees and fruit gardens along with beautiful views of the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge. We have 450+ acres so it in very private. As we are a working farm, you can see us driving pass with our tractors or maintaining the orchard around your campsite on occasion. You are welcome to ride your bikes, hike or jog where you will pass ponds and a working farm landscape. Please don’t pick our fruit. If you would like to enjoy the fruits of our labor please visit our farm store open year round on the premises where we sell cheeses, our fresh picked fruit and veggies, local meats, and our famous cider donuts along with other farm products. We also have a farm brewery open 3-7 in our old dairy barn for you to enjoy. Live music Saturdays and Sundays. Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Reserve are only 10 minutes away. The rail trail is three minutes away. This trail gives you walking and biking access into New Paltz, where there is tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. Please be aware that during the months of September and October there may be a Pick-Your-Own customer or two walking around picking apples around the campsite area between the hours of 10:00-6:00. You are also welcome to come down to the farm market and purchase bags to pick your own apples in season.

Magical Private Oasis in Woodstock

1 site · Lodging2 acres · Lincoln Park, NY
PRIVATE TWO ACRE CAMPSITE. OWNER OPERATED. Winter camping at its best! Come and enjoy a luxury tent with plush and cozy bedding. The Nest is the most unique private Camping experience in the Hudson Valley. It boasts a fully covered oversized safari style tent on its own deck with propane heater. Outdoor seating and a separate deck with a rustic kitchen area with propane grill. Cozy up to the fire pit area for star gazing and roasting marshmallows. Winter Camping adventure awaits! Staying at The Nest in winter months has proven to be an absolutely magical experience for hundreds of our guests. However, it does require a little extra planning and an understanding of winter in the Hudson Valley. Between November and April, the weather can have its extremes and does not allow for running water as the pipes will freeze and crack. Unfortunately, even leaving bottled water often just ends up being blocks of ice and not useable for our guests. We simply ask guests to bring in water during their stay to ensure a safe useable water source. We also ask guests to bring proper clothing. The tent does reach comfortable temperatures, however, extreme cold snaps can make it necessary to bundle up and cuddle with your main squeeze. If you are open to a little adventure and a little planning, come and enjoy our little oasis! If you are looking for high end amenities with hot showers and instant heat on demand, this is probably not for you and we suggest trying our outdoor experiences in warmer months. Proudly Owner Operated! No management companies, no cleaning crews..... In order to offer our guests the best experience possible with the highest standards, we personally clean and prepare our property, we coordinate bookings and we communicate with guests. Should you need anything or have any questions during your stay, we will take the call and personally respond to any guest needs. We are extremely proud to be able to do this. Pull into your own private driveway with room for two cars. Use the cart we provide you to carry back your bags and goodies! Camping gear, you will not need! We have thought of everything to make this the best stay possible! Be sure to check out the private porta potty as you make your way down the path. It is emptied weekly and is sanitized between each stay. As you make your way down the path through the woods, you will surely be surprised as you come up to this beautiful site! On your right, you will come upon our rustic, yet beautiful, outdoor kitchen with gorgeous stained glass windows. It is set on a deck along with dining area and gazebo. The Kitchen has plenty of counter space. Enjoy the coffee area which has a K-cup coffee maker, tea kettle and tin mugs! You can store drinks in the mini fridge provided and use the cooler for your bigger items. Cook amazing meals on the propane grill with side burner. Plates, cups, and even a pan is supplied for your stay. Move the rollaway "bar" to where ever it works best for you! Enjoy your meals on the four seat patio table between the kitchen and the gazebo. When you're done or if it is too buggy, move on over to the comfy sofa and chairs in the fully netted gazebo.*** Turn on the overhead lights as the night falls upon you. Oh did we not mention there is electricity?? Well, yes there is! You will find outlets in the kitchen, gazebo and the safari sleeping tent! When you're ready for some star gazing and camp stories, or even a game of darts…move on over to the fire pit area directly across from the kitchen/gazebo deck. It's perfect for roasting marshmallows and having drinks by the fire. Be sure to bring plenty of wood as you will definitely want to linger into the night! To end your magical night, retire over to the oversized 14'x16' safari style tent. It is a comfy and spacious eclectically designed retreat. Boasting a gel memory foam mattress on a queen size bed with lush sheets and down alternative comforter to ensure everyone's comfort. Enjoy the seating area with a good book as the afternoon sun shines through. Then rinse off under the al fresco five gallon camp shower and dry off with the lush towels provided! We are excited to be using rain water collected in 50 gallon rain barrels! When the temperature drops, we provide you with body wipes for personal hygiene use as we understand that super cold showers aren't for everyone! Plus the colder temps just freeze any water left out anyway. Sweet dreams are sure to follow with either the fan on those warm nights or the heaters on those chillier nights! We provide you with an electric heater as well as a propane space heater (October through March only ). The tent heats up nicely with the propane heater so get ready to be cozy! We simply ask you to not run the heaters if you are not in the tent! We provide you with a tank of propane for your stay! We also strongly suggest you bring extra warm clothing! The Nest @ Woodstock is located in the beautiful back woods of Woodstock, one of America’s most popular small towns, filled with amazing shops, restaurants, music and unique people. The property also shares an original stone wall border with the town of Saugerties, also once called one of the “coolest small towns in America”. The Nest is also right down the road from Kingston which houses most of our favorite restaurants, shops and bars. All these amazing towns are within 10 minutes of the site, so your options are endless. The property is also bordered by several large dormant farms and protected land. Across the street is a 75 year old Sportsmans Club that promotes the interest in the conservation of earth’s natural resources, the safe use of firearms and archery and to pass that enthusiasm onto youth. Once in a while you can hear some people target shooting or practicing but for the most part, it is just you and the birds and wildlife. With that said, this is the woods! There are wild turkey, owls, deer and the occasional bear. We actually like to think that the few target shots that you may hear throughout the day, scare away these animals!! However, you want to be sure to respect nature and use all precautions to protect it and yourself. You want to make sure that you store all food in the fridge and cooler to keep animals at bay. Any trash should be placed in the trash cans and tightly sealed. We ask that you always leave it better than you found it for yourself and generations to come! This is a camping experience without needing to set up or breakdown a campsite! There are outdoor spaces that will get dusty, will have leaves and will have spider webs as they are outdoors!! While everything is wiped down for your stay, including outdoor spaces, they are still outdoor spaces. ***If booking with us for the months of November through March, please note that there will not be water available for the camp showers as the water just freezes if left out. The water cooler with cold and hot water is also removed. We recommend that you bring in water that you will need and use on a daily basis. There are gas stations/stores close by where they can be purchased.*** ***Please note our Strict Cancellation Policy. We strongly recommend that you purchase trip insurance for your reservation for any unforeseen emergencies!! There are many companies out there that will give you different options at affordable prices! Please do your research. Unfortunately, we do NOT allow date changes due to weather. This is an outdoor experience...come sun, rain or snow. If you read through our reviews, you will find that all weather experiences are magical!

Bradley Farm Campsite

1 site · Lodging27 acres · New Paltz, NY
Twenty years ago, 317 Springtown Road was an abandoned 27 acres farm, and an eyesore to everyone. What Farmer Ray, a well known chef for 30 years, saw was an opportunity to actualize his dreams of having a place to raise animals and grow vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers to share with others. Full of potential, his field of dreams has become a working farm, home to chickens, bees, pigs, cats, along with row after row of vegetables, flowers and herbs.

Vonsaladfarm

1 site · RV, Tent45 acres · Kingston, NY
Back in the day this was all farmland. I purchased this property in 2019 and have been busy developing it. I’ve build a chicken coop, installed a bee hive and am planning to add Nigerian dwarf goats this fall. There is a farmstand that will open with gourmet goods later this year. The property is about 6 acres of flat land with several great spots to camp. Across the road is our private forest about 40 acres. Great for hiking and off roading with dirt bikes or ATV’s. Learn more about this land:We are conveniently located next to the NY Thruway & 209 Highway yet super secluded and in nature’s paradise adjacent to the Sawkill River and across a large private Forrest. There is some road noise from Sawkill road & the Thruway dependent on the spot you choose to set up. If your’e tenting you can be in the woods way up, if you want to plug in you’ll be closer to the house near the road.We grow vegetables, have fire pits, common outdoor furniture & BBQ’s that can be used. There is chicken & bee’s & goats.  A lot of outdoor activity with bird watching. Wild bunnies, deer, groundhogs say good night. It’s rural yet only 10 minutes to Kingston uptown area. We also have a wood fired oven and offer bread & pizza making classes as well as catered meals.

Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Camping

60 sites · Lodging25 acres · NY
NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET CAMPING AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. Kahonrakén:ra, The White Spout Waterfall, is a world unto itself. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and powerful energies. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, the original inhabitants of Skóhare, the Schoharie Valley. Surrounded by 25 acres of both private wooded land and wide-open fields of wildflowers and fireflies, the Waterfall Cabin and Campsite are easily accessible, just off a country back road. From the campsites, it's about a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall. We do not allow partying the campsites. There is a profound healing process happening at the waterfall. At the request of the Kaneinekehaka caretakers we ask that you to respect the sacredness of this land. Thank you! There are two campsites on the property, not far from each other in the forest. One campsite is in a grass circle clearing and the other has a rustic cabin and three small flat terraces for extra tents. They are both accessed by separate footpaths through the forest, below an old red barn, surrounded by ash and walnut trees, singing birds, deer, wildflowers, and wild medicines. The campsites are not within view of each other. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. Make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to a 150' waterfall and the river below. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. The waterfall is amazing but the hike is steep, so please wear appropriate footwear. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm so that your camping and local neighbors can chillax and enjoy the evening sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace campsite. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. Instructions for payment are in the community room next to the red silo at the barn. The wood is stacked at next to the red shed just uphill from the barn. You can also buy your own fire wood en route. We recommend that you buy kindling. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

Camping in Hudson Valley with horseback riding guide

Overview

From the Catskill mountains to historic villages along the river, the south-eastern corridor of New York has a certain romance. These sweeping vistas inspired the Hudson River School painters and continue to lure artists from New York City, less than an hour away. Today, the Hudson Valley is a blend of charming towns, rolling farmland and protected forests, as wells as posh resorts and restaurants. The Metro-North commuter line run as far north as Poughkeepsie for campers who don't have a car.

Harriman State Park and neighboring Bear Mountain State Park are an ideal home base to explore both nature and civilization. Harriman is the second largest park in the state, but only 40 miles from the city. The quiet forest holds 200 miles of hiking trails and dozens of lakes. The largest, Lake Sebago, has fishing, boat rentals, and a public swimming beach. Campers can make reservations at two campgrounds or book a rustic cabin.

For thinner crowds, head north to the Catskills. These rolling green peaks have some of New York's best hiking and skiing. The area also has many private campgrounds and cottages, including camping resorts that tend toward the glamorous with mini fridges and saunas.

North-South Lake is a popular family campground, with sandy beaches, boating, and a playground, as well as hundreds of tent sites. Hike up to the Kaaterskill Falls for a gorgeous view. Experienced hikers can press onward to the Devil's Path, one of the most dangerous trails in the East. For quiet nights, head to the nearby Minnewaska State Park Preserve, which has a much smaller campground and easy trails.

It goes without saying that you can explore the river valley by water as well. The Hudson River Greenway Water Trail stretches over 250 miles from Manhattan to the Adirondacks. The Greenway's map covers access points for kayak launching, along with nearby campsites in state parks.
