Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still need to stay connected in some ways? Our property has great cell service, so you can still easily communicate with your loved ones back home. Nestled nearby on the property is our BioHome Research Facility, cared for and designed by your Host, Edward. Unique in its construction, this BioHome was constructed in 1997 and is designed to have completely closed, self-supporting life support systems. If the idea of living in a completely self sufficient, off-grid home is appealing and fascinating to you, please add the BioHome Experience Extra to your booking, at $35. Your Host will spend an hour with you and your group explaining the inner workings and construction of the Biohome. Please note, you are camping nearby Project Biohome. While we encourage your interest and curiosity in our project, please do not trespass onto this portion of the property. Our location does experience a variety of paranormal activity, including orbs. This place is magical." - Sincerely Patrick Leon Our property gets plenty of sunshine for most of the year in the summer months, with temperatures in July and August reaching the high 90's or more. We are in the desert, after all! Please bring plenty of water and be prepared for the elements that are unique to our region. As we are at considerable elevation, please be prepared for wind, as well! Tents are not suited for this environment. There are many scenic canyons to hike and explore nearby: Only 90 minutes away are the stunning Ruby Mountains, great for hiking and exploring. As one Google reviewer said "Don't come here. This is big sky country with great night sky views. If you're looking for a great dark sky destination, this is the spot for you. This area has lots of wildlife like antelope, badgers, rabbits and this is open range for cattle. You may have a cow visitor! Please make sure to keep all food properly stored and disposed of so as to not attract wildlife to your campsite. Welcome to the High Desert, we're sure you'll leave amazed at the views. Learn more about this land: Quiet is a blessing; it allows one to hear oneself. No crime in the neighborhood, the antelope still run free out here. The never-ending changes in the sky (great storms and colorful sunsets) are humbling. The world goes on around me with little effect on my lifestyle. This is a majestic area with 11,000 ft. mountain peaks, great canyons and upper valleys. Looking for that gorgeous Milky Way? Our property has some of the best star gazing anywhere in the country. At such a high elevation and away from all the light pollution, the stars just shine brighter here. Plenty of sunshine for most of the year in the summer months, July and August it can get very hot. In the Winter you can take off in almost any direction on your snow shoes and cross country skis. This area has lots of wildlife like antelope, badgers, rabbits and this is open range for cows. Bring your telescope if you have one. But even with the naked eye you can get lost in how many stars there are. Shooting stars, satellites, all kinds of astrological phenomenon. If you like seclusion quiet and a night sky that's better than a planetarium you'll love this place. Bring your RVs ATVs and whatever you need. There's one hundred and sixty acres to roam around on with 40 acres of flat dry lake bed. 4800 feet in elevation even though we're in the valley. Low humidity. We have a 40° swing from day to night so if it's 90° during the day, it'll be 50° at night. Amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Between Winemucca and Elko on the Cowboy Corridor of I-80, Battle Mountain sees mountains and rugged desert terrain stretch in all directions—with not a single busy freeway in sight. Find off-grid Nevada adventure and year-round access to hundreds of miles of backcountry roads and trails, vast wide-open spaces, and public land comprising rugged desert and mountain terrain. Hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, motocross, paragliding, hunting, and fishing are all popular, especially for those seeking solitude. There’s plenty of backcountry for dispersed and primitive camping, while campers seeking more amenities and creature comforts can also find RV parks in and around town, plus developed campgrounds nearby.

Where to go

Battle Mountain Area

Simple RV parks and truck stops with full hookups and pull-through sites can be found in town, but south of Battle Mountain, the Mill Creek Recreation Area is a high desert oasis offering canyon hikes, trout fishing, birding, and free camping under cottonwood trees at an elevation of 5,200 feet. This former California Conservation Corps (CCC) and now BLM-run creekside campground is a local favorite year-round with sites for tents and RVs. If you want to catch your dinner, make camp at Willow Creek, where secluded campsites lie steps away from quiet fishing ponds.

I-80

Head west of Battle Mountain for hiking, off-roading, and free camping at the BLM-run Water Canyon Recreation Area near Winnemucca, or fishing, water sports, and camping at the Rye Patch State Recreation Area near Lovelock. Head east toward Elko for water sports, fishing, hunting, and both primitive and developed camping (with the Ruby Mountains as the backdrop) at the South Fork State Recreation Area. South of Elko, the scenic Lamoille Canyon offers two developed campgrounds. For something different, pitch your tent on the open brush land of a private Hipcamp property.

Austin and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest

State Road 305 south of Battle Mountain, on the way to Austin, Nevada, is a popular location for speed races of all types, but head further south past Austin for mountain biking, land sailing, hot springs, and the rugged terrain of the Toiyabe Mountains. Several developed campgrounds in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offer seasonal RV and tent camping options.

When to go

Spring through fall offer the most pleasant weather for camping and outdoor activities (even with chilly nights year-round), though winter brings snowy recreation and ice fishing. Many campgrounds are closed over winter, or offer limited amenities. No matter the time of year, the semi-arid climate makes for some of the best stargazing in northern Nevada.
