Camping near Stillwater guide

Overview

Camping near Stillwater, Minnesota calls outdoorsy folks to its natural splendor. The St. Croix River is a big draw here, flowing along the Minnesota-Wisconsin state border. Several kayak rental companies line the wooded banks of the St. Croix, regarded as one of the country’s best canoeing rivers. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy reeling in walleye, sauger, and even sturgeon too. About 15 miles north of Stillwater, William O’Brien State Park offers a range of both shaded and open areas for RV and tent camping—motorhomes up to 60 feet in length are allowed. Electric hookups, seasonal showers, and a public picnic area are among the amenities offered as well as easy access to the river and Lake Alice. Afton State Park, about 16 miles south of Stillwater, is another option with more rugged and hilly terrain. Hike the North or South River Loops before retiring for the night at hike-in backpack campsites with drinking water. Try a more comfortable stay in camper cabins and yurts with indoor wood stoves.
