RV camping in California Wine Country guide

Overview

Many visitors think Wine Country is just Napa and Sonoma valleys, but the region stretches west to the Pacific and north to lesser-known wine regions in Mendocino and Lake counties, providing abundant outdoor opportunities. If you’re towing a boat or other watercraft, head to Lake Berryessa, Lake Sonoma, or Clear Lake for boating, water skiing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. If it’s off-road vehicles you’re hauling, it’s South Cow Mountain OHV Recreation Area you want. Hikers and nature lovers will find trails in Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, and Van Damme State Park, while wild coastal scenery can be explored at Mendocino Headlands State Park, Point Arena, and Salt Point State Park. For redwoods, visit Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. RV parks can be found around the lakes, along the Russian River, and in some state parks and coastal campgrounds. Hookups are not always available. Always check fire restrictions.
