Bamboo Forest Campsite

2 sites · Tents33 acres · Eugene, OR
Welcome to Parker Learning Gardens! We are a nonprofit educational 33-acre farm located 10 miles north of Eugene, Oregon right between the small towns of Coburg and Harrisburg. Our campsites are located at our 3 acre Bamboo Forest, with covered platforms located alongside and underneath the canopy of our whimsical corridor of huge Linden Trees. There are around 40 varieties of bamboo in our densely-packed 35-year-old Bamboo Forest. You are welcome to explore this unique forest by navigating through our meandering trail system. Elsewhere on the farm we have over 500 fruit trees, many farm animals, and 12 demonstration gardens. We offer seasonal educational programming from Spring-Fall, with various community classes, workshops and field trips for schools. The mission of Parker Learning Gardens involves immersing people of all ages in nature while demonstrating how to: grow food organically, tend to the land from an ecological perspective, incorporate animals in a regenerative way, and be conscious environmental stewards. If you are interested, there may be an option for a private educational tour for an additional fee (dependent on timing and availability). Otherwise, your stay will be private with open access to the trail system of our Bamboo Forest and huge Linden Tree Grove (approximately 5 acres of of beautiful wondering space to explore and unwind). We are about 5 miles from the I-5 exit in Coburg. The farm is located in the old floodplain of the Willamette River, with close access to places to swim just a short car drive away. Royal Heart Hill

2 sites · RVs, Tents25 acres · Cottage Grove, OR
Please read in full before booking!!! The private and peaceful 'Royal-Heart Hill' property consists of - Oak Savanna, mixed conifer woodland, meadow, undulating hills and small pond. At the Heart of Royal, Oregon (in Cottage Grove proper) we are at the very end of a Dead-End road, which means no sound or light pollution from passing cars or nearby residences. Surrounded by BLM and Timber properties (please be aware of clearly marked private property/no trespassing signs at the end of the public road), while still being just under 6 miles outside of downtown Cottage Grove-the town of Covered-Bridges- with many options for shopping, dining, breweries and live music! Cottage Grove has nearby access to wineries and two large lakes (Cottage Grove and Dorena) with swimming, boating, fishing, as well as hiking and biking trails. We are 35 minutes/27 miles from the heart of Eugene. All campsites are a short walk away from a SMALL pond (no swimming), and epic sunset views from the meadow! **The timber acreage that borders our property- to the west and north of Overholser Road- was just harvested as of winter 2024.** Thus, we no longer have that 'deep in the forest' type-feel, but it did open up some westward/sunset views. Although the clearcut is an eye-sore, it is an example of what the logging industry does to our forests here in Oregon. I hope this will not put a damper on your camping experience, but it is unfortunately out of my control... On Royal-Heart Hill, we do our best to mitigate any negative impact on the forest with our practices of sustainable thinning, native habitat restoration and permaculture. If you have any questions about our forest management practices- please ask! **Poison oak is present! Please know how to identify, or ask and I will show you** I have done my best to clear it away from main camping areas and trails, but be cautious. Tecnu is provided in the outdoor shower if needed. **LEAVE NO TRACE//PACK IN, PACK OUT//NO DUMPING! A trash bag/bucket is provided, but please check the site for micro-garbage before leaving and take all of your trash with you. We provide buckets for food compost and *deposit* recycling (bottles/cans), which you may leave.** **All guests have access to the outdoor shower, which is located by the Dome.** **COMPOSTING TOILETS- There is a composting toilet at each site; however, only the toilet near the dome and shower has a urine diverter. If one feels uncomfortable urinating outside, this toilet can be used. At the other two sites: PLEASE, poop only! Urinate outside and throw TP in trash or composting barrel (around back of toilet). Before use: Make sure bucket is lined with sawdust. After use: Cover waste with sawdust and dump bucket in the composting barrel around back. Replace bucket and line with sawdust. Be Courteous! Thank you!** For humanure to break down properly, urine and feces must be kept separate. This is because the urea present in urine degrades into ammonia and kills the microbes that would otherwise break down the waste. Campfires are allowed within local regulation. **Absolutely no illegal activity of any kind or you will be asked to leave immediately with no refund. NO HARD DRUG USE!** Site Descriptions- The 'Platform' site has a large fire pit, composting toilet (for #2 only), potable water via hose, and electric via extension cord. It is a short distance from our outdoor shower, and is accessible with 4WD during the rainy season and 2WD during the dry season (the site is not accessible with a camper/trailer). From this site one can see the top of the monolithic Dome-Home, which makes it a little less private. **If camping with a vehicle that cannot take the steep road to the site, one can park on our gravel driveway (or at the top of the hill) and walk down via steps or road.** The 'Tent/Trailer' site is our more secluded/private site and is available amongst our Madrone and Chinquapin tree zone. The road to this site is flat and accessible by car/camper/small trailer. There is a turn-around (somewhat tight), but trailers larger than 17ft may have difficulty using it. There are many level spaces to park or pitch a tent. Hipcampers have access to electric via extension cord, a small cooking-fire-pit and composting toilet (#2 only); however, potable water, and outdoor shower are all located by the Dome, which hipcampers will have to walk (short distance) or drive to. There is currently an old (being renovated) trailer on site (out of the way), which is off-limits to hipcampers.

Camping near Oakridge guide

Overview

Surrounded by the verdant Willamette National Forest in the foothills of the Cascade Range, Oakridge has long been popular with outdoorsy types looking to get back into nature, especially mountain biking aficionados. Originally a railroad logging town, this small community now provides goods and services for visitors to the surrounding woodlands, and is a great place to stop by to stock up on groceries and supplies before heading out on a camping trip. There are also a couple of motels right in town, as well as restaurants representing cuisine from around the world, pubs, and even a disc golf course.

Where to go

The Lakes and Reservoirs of Lane County

Oakridge is near plenty of fantastic spots for fishing and boating, including Elijah Bristow State Park, Dexter Lake, Fall Creek Reservoir, and Lookout Point Lake, all within a 30- to 45-minute drive of Oakridge. Just south of town, Hills Creek Lake offers around 44 miles of shoreline and three boat ramps.

Eugene and Around

Less than an hour's drive from Oakridge, Eugene—Oregon's second-largest city—offers a well-rounded mix of cultural centers, natural areas, restaurants, and breweries. It’s also the gateway for the southernmost part of Oregon’s celebrated Willamette Valley wine country.

On the McKenzie River

A tributary of the Willamette River, the McKenzie River is popular for fishing, boating, and rafting. The surrounding region is also home to some of Oregon's finest hot springs, including Terwilliger Hot Springs and Belknap Hot Springs.

When to go

Like elsewhere in western Oregon, the weather in Oakridge is at its most pleasant in the summer months, when temperatures tend to be warm (with highs in the 70s or low 80s) and the chance of rain is at its lowest. If you're in the area for camping and want good weather without the summer vacation crowds, consider visiting in September, after Labor Day.
