Antelope Run Ranch

16 sites ¡ RVs, Tents41 acres ¡ NV
WOW, what a turn out for the Annular Solar Eclipse. All my guests were extremely wonderful people. We had a blast talking story. The great vibes we all put out actually gave us a perfect window to view the main event unfettered. The clouds parted and gave us the entire 5 plus minutes to view the full RING OF FIRE. I'm hopeful our guests will post some of their gorgeous photos captured. Antelope Run Ranch spans over 40 acres and currently offers four different sites for accommodation. There are three operational campsites that receive regular monthly improvements. The cabin site is currently unavailable for rent, as a composting outhouse and shower room are in the planning stages. The property features an old dry river bed running through the center of the property. A potable water system is pending installation on-site; guests are advised to bring their own water until then. Waste disposal services are not yet available, so guests are requested to make alternative arrangements for their waste. Each of our Camp Sites alone provide you with so much space, not including the vastness of the Ranch itself, but also the multitude of BLM land to explore. Eventually every "Dispersed" Site will have a central location for all guests or groups of friends to congregate...Get together and cook, eat and just relax and enjoy each others company, while allowing those in the party to be able to slink away to the comfort and quiet of their own Travel Trailer or RV. The Antelope Run Ranch is a gateway to adventure, catering to those with an adventurous spirit. Whether you enjoy star gazing, rock hounding, hiking, hunting, or simply exploring the sandy landscape, the ranch offers a range of experiences. The Pumpernickel Valley's vast openness provides a serene environment. Any 4x4 vehicle is welcome and required, as the sand can be soft. Feel free to bring your sand toys and embrace the countless opportunities for exploration in the valley. During the day, you can bask under the clear skies and remember to apply sunblock. At night, bring firewood and warm blankets to appreciate the experience fully. Guests can reach the nearby Humboldt River via UTV, ATV, or other desert-running vehicles to the south and west of the property. While mountains surround the area, the immediate surroundings are perfect for exploration. If you forget something, the city of Battle Mountain can be found to the east on I-80. Pack your adventurous spirit and escape from it all at Antelope Run Ranch. A small cabin labeled A01 (currently on pause for upgrades with others on the drawing board) is situated on the northeast corner of the property, offering accommodation for two people. The cabin includes a small wood burner and a skylight, primarily serving as a base camp for hunting. On the southwest corner, site B01 is equipped with a picnic table, bench, fire pit, and BBQ, providing a comfortable, relaxing spot. This site is located adjacent to 1,292 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land on the west side, and the entire valley is filled with BLM land for exploration. Access to the property involves traveling dirt roads and soft sand, so no matter what type of vehicle, or RV you have, it needs to be four wheel drive. Once past the power plant, you'll leave the black top, which ends around six miles away from the property (detailed pictures for waypoints will be provided a day or two before your arrival date). If you plan on bringing trailers or camping equipment, be prepared for soft sand throughout the area, again 4x4 is a must. Once you've made your reservation and received the coordinates, get ready for an authentic getaway experience. Embrace the isolation and admire the clear night skies of Pumpernickel Valley, a genuine escape nestled between Battle Mountain and Winnemucca, Nevada, north of the I-80. Signage has been installed to provide a much easier path to the Antelope Run Ranch as of 23 July 2023 As of May 22, 2023, a solar-powered cellular security camera has been installed on the northeast corner, providing a view looking southwest, approximately 300 feet behind Cabin A01. Upon booking, you'll be provided access to check it out if requested. The first few trees (tiny for now) have been planted on the property, with more to come. The establishment of potable water for guests and tree watering is in progress. At Antelope Run Ranch, you can set up your tent, RV, camper trailer, overland rig, or stay in a cabin for an additional fee. Get ready, our next addition will be Hitching Posts, we've had a few requests, so we will position at least one at each Site, and multiple throughout the area. So ready the Horses, let the exploration begin. Please note that the ranch is located in a high desert environment, and temperature swings between day and night can be significant. Guests are advised to be mindful of the surrounding nature, including snakes, scorpions, mosquitoes, coyotes, and other wildlife that roam the land. If the need arises and I am unable to assist you in any way, I do have a few buddies in the area that may be of assistance. Please reach out for directions from me once booked, Google and Apple maps have been unreliable as of recent. I have directions and pictures to share once booked. Signage has been set up, navigation to Antelope Run Ranch will be that much simpler now! Closest Hospital: Battle Mountain General Hospital 535 S. Welcome to the High Desert! Each site can accommodate one truck and trailer/RV. If you are planning on bringing additional vehicles, please reserve an additional site. Situated on a mountain ridge top with great big sky views, our pick-your-own RV campsites share the property with our nearby BioHome Research Facility. We are 420 friendly, but please, no loud parties or hard drugs. Spread out over 40 acres, if you're looking for stillness and serenity, this is the place to be. Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, but still need to stay connected in some ways? Our property has great cell service, so you can still easily communicate with your loved ones back home. Nestled nearby on the property is our BioHome Research Facility, cared for and designed by your Host, Edward. Unique in its construction, this BioHome was constructed in 1997 and is designed to have completely closed, self-supporting life support systems. If the idea of living in a completely self sufficient, off-grid home is appealing and fascinating to you, please add the BioHome Experience Extra to your booking, at $35. Your Host will spend an hour with you and your group explaining the inner workings and construction of the Biohome. Please note, you are camping nearby Project Biohome. While we encourage your interest and curiosity in our project, please do not trespass onto this portion of the property. Our location does experience a variety of paranormal activity, including orbs. Have your camera ready! "In a lifetime of photography this was the first of multiple unexplained photography events including dancing light streaks and unusual light trails. This place is magical." - Sincerely Patrick Leon Our property gets plenty of sunshine for most of the year in the summer months, with temperatures in July and August reaching the high 90's or more. We are in the desert, after all! Please bring plenty of water and be prepared for the elements that are unique to our region. As we are at considerable elevation, please be prepared for wind, as well! Tents are not suited for this environment. There are many scenic canyons to hike and explore nearby: Only 90 minutes away are the stunning Ruby Mountains, great for hiking and exploring. As one Google reviewer said "Don't come here. It's just too beautiful and you wont be able to handle it!" - Jacob L. Bring your fishing poles and watersports supplies, as the nearby South Fork Reservoir and Wild Horse Reservoir 90 minutes away are popular spots with the locals for fishing and fun in the sun by the water. In the Winter months you can take off in any direction on your snow shoes and cross country skies for miles. There are exciting views everywhere you look! This is big sky country with great night sky views. If you're looking for a great dark sky destination, this is the spot for you. This area has lots of wildlife like antelope, badgers, rabbits and this is open range for cattle. You may have a cow visitor! Please make sure to keep all food properly stored and disposed of so as to not attract wildlife to your campsite. Welcome to the High Desert, we're sure you'll leave amazed at the views. Learn more about this land: Quiet is a blessing; it allows one to hear oneself. No crime in the neighborhood, the antelope still run free out here. The never-ending changes in the sky (great storms and colorful sunsets) are humbling. The world goes on around me with little effect on my lifestyle. This is a majestic area with 11,000 ft. mountain peaks, great canyons and upper valleys. Looking for that gorgeous Milky Way? Our property has some of the best star gazing anywhere in the country. At such a high elevation and away from all the light pollution, the stars just shine brighter here. Plenty of sunshine for most of the year in the summer months, July and August it can get very hot. In the Winter you can take off in almost any direction on your snow shoes and cross country skis. This area has lots of wildlife like antelope, badgers, rabbits and this is open range for cows. Please be aware you may encounter wildlife and plan accordingly.

Camping near Battle Mountain guide

Overview

Between Winemucca and Elko on the Cowboy Corridor of I-80, Battle Mountain sees mountains and rugged desert terrain stretch in all directions—with not a single busy freeway in sight. Find off-grid Nevada adventure and year-round access to hundreds of miles of backcountry roads and trails, vast wide-open spaces, and public land comprising rugged desert and mountain terrain. Hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, motocross, paragliding, hunting, and fishing are all popular, especially for those seeking solitude. There’s plenty of backcountry for dispersed and primitive camping, while campers seeking more amenities and creature comforts can also find RV parks in and around town, plus developed campgrounds nearby.

Where to go

Battle Mountain Area

Simple RV parks and truck stops with full hookups and pull-through sites can be found in town, but south of Battle Mountain, the Mill Creek Recreation Area is a high desert oasis offering canyon hikes, trout fishing, birding, and free camping under cottonwood trees at an elevation of 5,200 feet. This former California Conservation Corps (CCC) and now BLM-run creekside campground is a local favorite year-round with sites for tents and RVs. If you want to catch your dinner, make camp at Willow Creek, where secluded campsites lie steps away from quiet fishing ponds.

I-80

Head west of Battle Mountain for hiking, off-roading, and free camping at the BLM-run Water Canyon Recreation Area near Winnemucca, or fishing, water sports, and camping at the Rye Patch State Recreation Area near Lovelock. Head east toward Elko for water sports, fishing, hunting, and both primitive and developed camping (with the Ruby Mountains as the backdrop) at the South Fork State Recreation Area. South of Elko, the scenic Lamoille Canyon offers two developed campgrounds. For something different, pitch your tent on the open brush land of a private Hipcamp property.

Austin and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest

State Road 305 south of Battle Mountain, on the way to Austin, Nevada, is a popular location for speed races of all types, but head further south past Austin for mountain biking, land sailing, hot springs, and the rugged terrain of the Toiyabe Mountains. Several developed campgrounds in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest offer seasonal RV and tent camping options.

When to go

Spring through fall offer the most pleasant weather for camping and outdoor activities (even with chilly nights year-round), though winter brings snowy recreation and ice fishing. Many campgrounds are closed over winter, or offer limited amenities. No matter the time of year, the semi-arid climate makes for some of the best stargazing in northern Nevada.
