A perfect riverside refuge.
We took a chance and booked Herbert's place and were totally blown away. A beautiful waterside refuge in the cute little town of Beulah was the payoff. Herbert was an amazing host, helpful and friendly, bringing us a tarp for our stuff when thunderstorms rumbled on the horizon. The site was well maintained full of natural beauty and clean. The sound of trickling water and a brilliant star show at night lulled us to sleep. The site is close to Devils Tower, the Black hills and within a day trip distance to the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore. The town of Beulah is just darling, with friendly people and even a little nightlife. We hipcamp all the time, and have stayed in dozens of campsites and Herbert's place is easily in the top three favorites of ours. By all means stay here if you are recreating in the Wyoming/South Dakota area. Five out of five stars!
Wonderful experience. Herb was so kind and accommodating, he even met us at a local gas station to escort us to the campsite as we got in later than expected. The campsites were great and staying along the stream was so relaxing. I wish we could have stayed longer!
Herbert’s place was fantastic! Right by a beautiful creek, well-manicured, easily marked, and gorgeous. Herbert himself was really helpful, sent us extra instructions when he knew we would arrive in the dark after a long drive. Amazing views of the night sky, a lovely creek, and even a jug of fresh well-water he brought down for us. I would definitely come back!
Lovely night in a beautiful locatio
We had a great time at Redwater! It was a little difficult to find because the campground sign wasn't up when we arrived, but we were able to find service and call Herb, and he got us to the campsite. Otherwise, we had a great stay! The creek is beautiful and there were some really nice views right out of our tent. We even saw a deer cresting the ridge at sunset. Highly recommend!
Awesome creek side stay!
This site and Herb are fantastic! Truly a private gem with your own creek and view. Herb’s hospitality was awesome from the start; directions, filling water, spotting us...
Don’t miss out on this private deer filled lot of land!
Idyllic and beautiful; host amazing
We stayed here for four nights over Labor Day weekend and we ended up having the whole beautiful place to ourselves. This was an unexpected bonus, but even if it was “full”, there would still be plenty of space for privacy (All sites are good, but I would most recommend #2 as you can camp beneath the trees and still be on the river bank). Swam and tubed and fished in the very pretty river. The highway is probably about a mile away but you can only hear it when someone really revs their engines. Otherwise it’s completely tranquil. And Herb went out of his way to make us feel welcome and had lots of good advice on places to go. He even met us at the gas station to lead us to the site, and swung by with jugs of fresh well water. The site was clean and had a tidy porta-potty and trash cans. Though it feels isolated, it’s less than a 5 minute drive to a gas station for supplies. Spearfish and the gateway to the northern Black Hills is 15 minutes away. Took a day trip to Badlands (about an hour and forty minutes). Obviously very highly recommended!
