***CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. CHECK BACK IN JUNE 2021****

PAY AS YOU PLEASE. After your experience, please let us know how much it was worth to you. Cash collection at sight or Cash App. Book this huge two tiered site for both a big open area as well as a lakefront view. Disconnect with this rustic and wild getaway. 70 acres of private land + 5000 acres in public lands will give you access to horse, bike, ATV, snowmobile, snowshoeing, cross country ski trails, and a multitude of other activities. Multiple lakes, each 30 acres and available for fishing, swimming, boating, ect. The lake has a mud bottom and can have sticks, so I suggest a pair of watershoes/socks and a mud spa session. This underdeveloped land is perfect for you to test your wilderness skills as well as connect with nature. Any questions, please call or text, Thanks! Tara

* Located 5 miles North of Merrill* *Uses groomed service roads- grass, ruts, rough. Low suspension vehicles not recommended.

Let’s start this off by saying that Tara is a rad human being. Her Families D.I.Y campground is in the beginning stages but already is a paradise. We had a small lake to ourselves. Which is uncommon in the northwoods. The lower part of the underbelly site has a steep hill to get to the lake. You can probably fit 3 to 4 tents(depending on size down there). The hill would be a mess if it was wet so be careful. We had an amazing sunny weekend so were lucky. I recommend this place to everyone. Make the camp your own and enjoy the seclusion.

Escape to the Woods was fantastic! Our family enjoyed the peaceful setting and beautiful lake. We had the use of two kayaks which was perfect for our teenage boys who loved exploring the area. The host, Tara, was very kind and quickly answered any questions. This experience was the “escape” our family was looking for. Thanks Tara!

The site was beautiful! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get away! Tara was an amazing host, she even helped unload our vehicle when we got there. This was especially helpful as the site is located down a steep muddy trail. She loaded up a utv and drove everything right down there! There were tons of things to do from the kayaks, water raft, hiking, etc. Our dog had the time of his life swimming in the lake and running up and down the trails playing with Tara's super friendly dogs. Be sure to bring bug spray and water shoes! This is a very shaded site, most of the day you are in the shade. However, there is an upper tier where you will find plenty of sun to dry things out or catch some rays. There was plenty of wood provided to us on site as well as toilet paper for the toilet. Tara was also mindful of the current pandemic and provided a safe atmosphere for us. We already plan on returning in a month! :D

Our stay here blew me away! Myself and my friend (both 19 y/o women) had an amazing time and we felt like Tara had a real respect and passion for guests having a great experience. We really enjoyed spending time kayaking and swimming in the lake, and making a fire at night. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a secluded yet totally safe outdoor experience. Thank you so much, Tara!

A quick overnight stay here, we really enjoyed our time here. Directions and information were clear, site was clean, and the area enchanting. Arriving late to a bundle of readily available firewood was a huge plus too!

What a wonderful hidden gem Tara's place is! We loved our campsite in the cool, shaded trees right by the lake. We enjoyed kayaking, swimming and being outside all weekend. (We managed to pop our truck tire when we got there, but Tara's family helped us out by lending us their vehicle to take our tire to the nearest tire center which is in Wausau. We are so grateful!!) A tip to others considering the Underbelly: pack light! It's a steep walk downhill to the site so just bring only what you need. Other than the tire issue we absolutely loved our stay and we are planning to come back soon.
