Beaver Haven is unique experience. You won't find the amenities of typical campsite but you will be able to explore land that is allowed to be in its natural state. There aren't many clear paths but that doesn't need to stop you from roaming the beautiful hills & meadows. Bill is fascinating, kind and generous. I wished I had more time to hear details of his life story and his commitment to land preservation. When we popped our mattress by dragging it too close to the barbwire cow fence, he readily provided us a patch kit. It was an interesting site choice-- inside the cow pasture. It proved worthy. The pet cow (horns and all) was lovely and gracious in allowing us to set up bedside her stream. Taryn, who had the hip camp vision, recently passed. There is a moving burial site on the land. The only noise we experienced, was the trickle of the stream, the many bird calls & the clatter of a passing Amish carriage. We weren't far from the road but there's very few cars to disrupt the peace you'll find on this powerful land.

Wow! Camping at Beaver Haven was a magical experience and will leave lasting memories for my family. The land was stunning, and our children were happy and kept busy: playing in the creek, visiting Miracle the Cow, and gathering spring water. Bill was a gracious & charming host. We loved hearing his stories about his life & love, Taryn-who has left a lasting legacy in sharing her beautiful land & property. We plan to return to Beaver Haven.

Our family camping experience at Beaver Haven was perfect. Bill was a fantastic host with great stories. The campsite was dreamy: a creek, Miracle the cow πŸ„, the open pasture, the hippie vans, the hiking on site. Usually after a few nights of camping, I am ready to return to the comforts of my home. I did not want to leave Beaver Haven.

I absolutely loved my stay at Beaver Haven. For people that prefer an authentic β€œdispersed camping” experience, these acres are a slice of nirvana nestled in the ultra unique Driftless Region landscape. The narrow valley is intimately nestled by tall, steep, wooded hills on all sides. It’s as if Mother Nature gently holds the meadows and crystalline creek cupped in her hands. This place is not for those accustomed to cookie cutter campsites. It is for those free spirits seeking the choice to create their own experience. And everyone’s encounter will be a uniquely different dimension tailored to their own context. My place in time now is, as an older gentleman, reflective of life past and relishing a peaceful present. So, I realy enjoyed some of the retro items seen on the property that made me feel as if I were at an informal museum of sub-cultures beginnings. An old VW van from the β€œflower power” era. An old school bus conversion that took my mind straight to the popular story of β€œInto The Wild”. Small farms such as this one returning the land to nature had me recall the noble effort of Farm Aid. Watching the occasional Amish horse and buggy drive past an example of a growing number of us yearning to create a simpler life for ourselves that is more personally fulfilling. While subcultures of our time may have begun with β€œflower power”, they have expanded and grown into many based on a conservationist/minimalistic bend (homesteading, tiny living, van & RV lifers, preppers, net zero dwellers, etc). Seeing the blessed burial place here, is a spiritual experience that had me think of what legacy my own time on earth will leave to others. The present pandemic is allowing many of us time to reflect and re-evaluate, and to do so in the wild presence of nature’s essence is like being given a blank canvas for further self exploration. The spirit of Beaver Haven, is such a place. Your stay here isn’t one created for you by someone else, it’s yours to create as you go. ~ Peace

Dennis... I’m speechless. What a profoundly beautiful testimony. We’re so honored by your experience, and so touched by the depth and sensitivity of your heart. We are all indeed our own path, and life is always what we make of it... the opportunities we say yes to and the curiosities we explore, or don’t. Even a stay on the beautiful land we steward is a microcosm of the experience of Life. Love and blessings to you, Dennis… hope to see you in the future. You’re due for a big hug when hugging is back in vogue ❀️

Beaver Haven is a quiet sanctuary. The land is so beautiful and the host Bill makes you feel right at home. He was generous to offer his knowledge of the land, native plants, and people. There's easy access to a fresh water spring. Bill encouraged us to pick the wild mint and add it to our water. He has one cow at the moment. Her name is Miracle and she was a sweetheart. She grazed in the pasture we camped in and never bothered us. She even put up with our over-curious dog.

It was hard to leave Beaver Haven and return to the city. We will definitely return.

Thank you, Gretchen! Miracle got her name because her mom was apparently sterile :). Surprise! So glad you enjoyed your stay.

Beaver Haven is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I have ever camped. Our site was right next to the creek, and the sound of the creek was so relaxing. Bill was a very gracious host, who made us feel comfortable and welcome. We will definitely be returning.

Bill was an excellent host that was inviting upon our arrival and even gave a quick tour of the main property. He had firewood at the ready and even welcomed guests to join in at his communal bonfire if we wanted. The land is remote, scenic and peaceful making for a relaxing weekend. A gem of a property in the remarkably beautiful Driftless region.
