COVID19 Update:  Private Bathroom/shower (see below)

* it doesn't get much better than this for group campers.. Riverfront, incredible views, seclusion, privacy, easy river access, balance of shade and sun, hot showers & flush toilet, tons of parking, store within a walk..

* spacious secluded waterfront site suitable for larger groups on the Cacapon River surrounded by woody areas on 3 sides and mountain on the other side of the river. Groups up to 40 people have stayed on site so far. Camping area is about 125x60 feet, plus more away from water depending on how many cars you bring, with space for overflow cars within a walk. Site is a great value for larger groups, as we don't charge anything extra up to 12 people, and only a buck per person afterwards.

* deep and shallow spots for fishing and kayaking (this downstream site has wider river and calmer waters)

* this site is great for multi-family groups with kids, the waterline is mostly calm and shallow by the shore,  you can easily see your kids due to low shorelines, and you can also walk to the bridge 1/8 of a mile and "tube" through the rapids back to the site. Fun that can last for hours.

* put in upstream for trips ranging from 1h to whole day and camp along the river

* Stoney Creek Country store within walking distance for your basic needs plus pizza, milkshakes, subs, ice creams.. and home of the "best cheese steak you ever had"

* you can burn any driftwood you find (plenty!), but no cutting of trees/vegetation allowed

* this site is suitable for RV/dry camping, you'll need to get a little creative with finding a level spot, and be relatively good (but not an ace) with your trailer/RV.

* Please review Stoney Creek Campground Page for available nearby attractions.

COVID19 Update: "Private" to site bathrooms. You will be issued a pin code. Two rolls of TP and a roll of paper towels will be provided. The bathroom/shower will be cleaned prior to your arrival. Your group will be responsible for keeping the bathroom/shower stocked for your needs, and as clean and disinfected as you're comfortable for the duration of your stay. The port-a-potty by the store will be a backup option. If going to the store, please wear a mask and review COVID19 guidelines posted at the door.

All long weekends will require 3 night stay (Memorial, Independence, Labor) and have a price premium.

If you'd like to come in earlier than check-in time, you can check with us if we can accommodate, but the best way to reserve that morning is to book additional night.

River Conditions: Google: "national weather gcpw2" for current and forecast river conditions. The river will likely become dangerous to enjoy past 5ft at Cacapon gauge.  "Good" (safe) range is 1.5-4.5ft. Actual river depth varies.

Great spot! Our group was very happy with this space. The views were beautiful and the sound of the river running was incredibly relaxing. Plenty of space for our group of 15 + a few pets. Bathroom and shower were convenient and clean as well. Would recommend to a friend and would due happy to stay again!

We had such an amazing time at this lovely spot! The pictures don’t do it justice, this place is absolutely beautiful. The river is clean and shallow enough for our young kids to walk in, deep in some areas did the older ones to swim. We brought tubes and walked up to the bridge access and rode down to our site over and over. So much fun! The shop nearby was great to purchase wood, ice, and basic supplies and milkshakes for the kids! While at the actual site we were completely secluded. Andrey and his wife were so helpful when needed. We got hit with a massive storm that leveled our camp on our last night and they were there to help retrieve items from the river, clean up logs from the road, let us leave some trash and broken items that he offered to bring to the dump for us. Such a huge help during that little adventure! We will absolutely be back with a group. There is lots of wildlife...bunnies, turtles, frogs, even a visit from a small black bear, and lots and lots of snakes. While this may deter some people we cohabitated nicely. They aren’t dangerous and we left each other alone, but something to mention to anyone who is phobic. We are grateful for the lovely escape and can’t wait to be back in the fall!

The site was very private and peaceful. Plenty of large trees to provide much-needed shade in the heat. Very easy access to the river. The bathhouse and the country store made camping much more pleasant. Andrey was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely be back.

This large campsite is nicely situated on a beautiful stretch of river, which offered nice fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill and Rock Bass. It's a fairly private location, mostly obscured from neighboring sites by trees, brush and downfall. Two new picnic tables provided ample space for us to spread out our gear, and a ring was conveniently provided for our campfire. Hosts Andrey and Natalia were also friendly and accommodating, even offering to let us use one of their kayaks to try our luck fishing downstream. It was also nice to have the Stoney Creek Country Store nearby for any supply needs. Looking for a riverfront campsite that offers privacy and convenience? Give Almost Heaven a try!

The "Almost Heaven Riverfront North" was great, definitely recommend it! Nice spot on the river and can easily accommodate our bigger group of 10+ people. Was secluded while still having easy walkable access to bathhouses and the store. Can't wait to come back!

This site is beautiful! Super spacious, we set up three tents and I would say that there is definitely room for at least three more. Andrey was super communicative and helpful. The close (but not too close!) proximity to the Stoney Creek Camp Store was a huge help when we need batteries and more butter. The women who were working at the store were very nice, and one even bought us an extra bundle of firewood because it was going to be so cold the night we stayed! She told us to help ourselves to more and we could settle up in the morning. The site itself was beautiful, right on the river, with incredible views up and down the river. We were all lulled to sleep by the sound of the river, and it made my nap in my hammock an even better experience. The bath house is a short walk from the site, with private bathrooms with hot showers. The WiFi was great because cell reception is terrible, but was only available closer to the bath house and camp store. Which was actually really nice, because I could fully unplug, but my sister and brother could take the short walk to get in range when they needed to call their kids. Highly recommend this site for large groups as well, as the site is huge. I will definitely be coming back to this site! Thanks Andrey!

We had a wonderful, wonderful time. Made this reservation in early March and by late May, everything was different in the world--we had been at home in lockdown for 70+ days and were really looking forward to getting out of town in a socially responsible way. Almost Heaven North fit the bill to a tee.

We loved the spaciousness, river access, visual privacy, and private access to the bathhouse given the pandemic. There were enough trees to string hammocks and a tarp for the scant chance of rain, a nice big flat area for tents and running around, and then a slope down to the water that created a good visual barrier for our kids to let them know when they needed to have PFDs on and let a grownup know they wanted to go "fishing." We brought a canoe and a kayak and went easily down and back the half-mile or so of slack water starting right at the campsite. The store was a great resource for ice and firewood although we made an effort to bring most everything we needed in order to limit the times we’d need to go in (while masked). One morning we drove over to Paw Paw Bends to hike the C&O canal trail up to the tunnel entrance for a change of scene.

The only negative probably had to do with the relationship to the neighborhood. While Almost Heaven North is very visually private, there is a community just a few hundred feet away on the other side of a forest buffer. Almost Heaven South is a little more visually exposed to the community. Both sites are private, but it's easy for people from the community to wander in, and two groups (both apparently visitors) did so to and through our site. I mentioned it to Andrey after the trip and he spoke with some of the neighbors immediately and said he'd be getting better signage making it clear which parts of the riverfront are community access and which are the private campsites. And, we heard some music at night from the houses. Not loud, but persistent late into the night. If we had all had earplugs it would have been a non-issue, I recommend bringing those in case you hear and are bothered by music.

Those things aside, again, we LOVED it! We’ve been camping all around WV by car, canoe, and backpack for ten years, and this site was easily in my top ten, top 5 for car sites. I hope to reserve again (and bring earplugs) for later in the year!
