Campers can hike and find a very secluded wooded spot or we have a more traditional space in the heart of the farm next to the family garden and with access to an indoor restroom, picnic table and fire pit. We have a beautiful, park like farm with many sites for camping.

We are 3 miles from Terra Alta, a rural town with two locally owned restaurants and one local craft beer brewery featuring an exciting rotating cast of food trucks. We are 20 minutes from Swallow Falls State Park (MD), featuring Muddy Falls, awesome river swimming and gorgeous hiking in an old growth Hemlock forest.  We are also 20 minutes from Herrington Manor State Park (MD) were there is lake swimming.  Cathedral State Park (WV) a virgin Hemlock forest with 400 year old trees in about 45 minutes away.  Deep Creek Lake (MD) is 40 minutes away and offers motor boat rentals Golf, Skiing and swimming. There is skiing, hiking, biking, tubing, rafting, kayaking and much more to explore withing 40 minutes of our farm.   The best white water rafting on the east coast is 20-40 minutes away.

We welcome campers of all kinds!

We began operating our 150 acre farm in 2011 and became the first Certified Naturally Grown Livestock farm in West Virginia in 2013. We raise 100% grass-fed beef and pasture raised pigs.   We also have 30 acres of Certified Organic Corn.  There re no GMO's pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or other petroleum based products used on our farm.

Campers can choose to to have a farm to table meal cooked for them  for an additional fee. We prepare most of our food from scratch using local produce, meat and bulk organic dry goods. We occasionally make yogurts, noodles, simple cheeses, and fermented foods.

Caveat-While vehicles are allowed to drive into the site near the fire ring, if there has been recent  rain we may restrict vehicles to parking on a gravel drive about 200ft from the main camp site (tent camping).  We also have some nice secluded places to park camping vehicles on heavy use gravel farm road with walking access to water/fire pit etc.

Jennifer and her husband were awesome! They wanted to make sure I was all squared away and offered to make me dinner. The view here is INCREDIBLE!!! I literally sat on my chair with my beers for 5 hours watching the sun set and then another two watching the billions of fireflies!! This place is magical. I will be coming back in my travels. Thank you!

Wow this spot is like a storybook! Gorgeous property, animals everywhere, beautiful flora and winding pathways. Jennie and her family were incredible hosts, including providing us a bathroom in their home to use, a state pass to a local park with waterfalls and we enjoyed two meals with their family which were lovely. The campsite was spacious with two picnic tables and a fire pit (bring your own grill set up), and even though you are in a backyard of someone's home at night it feels like you found the ends of the earth! Amazing sunsets and star views as well. Highly recommended for a farm experience a little slice of heaven in West Virginia.

Possum Tail Farm was a great place for a weekend of camping! There were about 15 of us and we had plenty of space. We had everything we needed and the hosts were very attentive. The grass was a little long due to recent rain, but everything else was perfect, especially the meal that was provided for us! Definitely will camp here again!

I don't think it's possible for my camp stay at Possum Tail Farm to have been any better.

When I first arrived, Brian, their son and their puppy welcomed me and kindly showed me several camping spots tucked around their property that I could choose from. They were all so picturesque, there's no wrong choice. There are great options for tents and for my van.

There was a large picnic table set under the trees and right next to their garden — a peaceful and comfortable place to cook dinner while enjoying beautiful views of the farm. There is also a cute and very clean composting toilet shed nearby, along with access to a bathroom in the main house.

It was my first time solo camping, and they made me feel so welcomed. Jennie brought me firewood, Brian stopped for a quick chat before his post-dinner farm work and their son and puppy were endless entertainment as they romped through the garden and up and around the trees as I cooked my dinner. I got a sense of what it's like to really live on farm... you know, without all the hard work part 😉

The next morning Brian and Jennie took me on an awesome tour of their farm. They showed me their new large barn that included a new solar energy project, a tinyhouse they're currently constructing, their farm store and the machinery, tools they need and use on a daily basis.

I then went into the pasture with Brian to move the cows. I don't think I've ever been so close to cows before! It was pretty exciting — they were friendly, chill yet clearly pumped for their next meal (who isn't?). Brian taught me about rotational grazing, all the different types of grasses, and answered all my weird specific questions, even about their super sleek electric fences (they really are pretty cool).

They showed me how they feed their pigs, and discussed why they have pigs and their previous history with goats and chickens. You really get an understanding of the continual growth that comes with being a farmer.

Jennie walked me through her garden. She was excited to show me all that she's growing — from asparagus and rhubarb to strawberries and garlic scapes. She was humble and honest about the effort and work a garden really takes, and she's open to all and any questions you have, whether it's about replanting, propogating green onions, blueberry bushes, growing beans, and especially her newest project: a medicinal herb garden.

They have so many interesting projects and are so enthusiastic to share them with you. Possum Tail Farm is truly a beautiful place to camp, and their tour gives you a detailed glimpse into their ever-evolving, unique day-to-day life. They are farmers, entrepreneurs, stewards — they care so hard about what they do, and they inspire you to care so hard about what you want to do too.

I HIGHLY recommend Possum Tail Farm!!

My group and I cannot say enough great things about Jennie and her family! First off, campsite itself is awesome, we put 3 tents on it and were able to have distance between them and enough space for Cornhole and bocci ball. The space is alongside gardens and berry bushes, it's also far enough from the main house to feel private. Access to a nice toilette and shower was great as well. Most important! Book a dinner there! We chose to have dinner for 6 made by Jennie and and her family at the farm, eaten alfresco. We had pulled pork sliders on homemade buns, baked bacon mac n cheese, a phenomenal salad with homemade ranch dressing and angel food cake with homemade whipped cream and peach preserves. SO GOOD. We cleaned our plates then just spent the next hour talking about how good it was. We toured the farm, met the goats, pigs and cows. Jennie and her family are friendly and never intrusive, they answered all our many questions. We ended our stay by picking up souvenir shirts for the girls and their pasture raised meat! Again, 10/10 would recommend, and definitely treat yourself to the farm to table dinner!

The camp site was nestled behind the owner's home behind a small bunch of pine trees. The site was very spacious and clean. There were a couple of trees to hang a hammock between as well. The access to the bathroom with a shower was a very nice perk. Brian the owner was very informative and really friendly. I would definitely go back for another adventure.

Jenny and her family were so sweet! We felt right at home. The grounds were absolutely spectacular and well-kept. I loved being able to walk to the bathroom and have a hot shower and flushing toilet readily available. There was also firewood and a water pump with potable water. I also loved having breakfast with Jenny's family my last morning there. The location is also close to gas stations, which is a big plus in case you forget anything during your camping trip. I would definitely recommend this location!

What a wonderful experience we had at the farm. even with all the rain we were able to enjoy a rich experience with access to animals, tons of fields and very importantly (especially during the rain) a functioning toilet. Will go back again and again

Ps my biggest regret when leaving was not having purchased any of their meats. So do take money to consider buying some on your way out. Everything look incredible!
