Drive your rooftop tent or small camper to the top of a lush West Virginia mountain homestead. Here you will feel far from everything but you're are actually only minutes from Elkins and hiking, rivers and outdoor sports of the Monongahela National Forest. Campsites are in the old apple orchard where you'll enjoy quiet evenings with starry nights. Only peace and quiet with the occasional excursion train whistle or gunshot in the distance depending on the time of year. Scrap metal dealer at the bottom of the mountain. Heaven at the top. Welcome to West Virginia!

Walking paths make for easy exploring of the wooded areas and orchard meadow. You'll encounter deer, turkey, owls, and the occasional bear. Our flock of beautiful and friendly heritage breed Khaki Campbell ducks is just down the hill, so you may hear them chattering away.

About the home: Built in the 1980s during the "back-to-the-land" movement by folks yearning for freedom, rural peace and a better world. Much of the property is untouched or only lightly used, with just one house and two outbuildings plus a ramshackle cabin that echoes back to earlier times when the property was a working apple orchard. The unique architecture of the back-to-the-land movement is rarely accessible to the general public. To stay on this property is a treat for those who appreciate nature, Americana and quietude.

About the area: Located on the edge of the Monongahela National Forest and the middle of Appalachia, we are within easy driving distance to many scenic outdoor recreation hot spots including Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area and Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge for fishing, mountain biking, hiking and camping. We are just six miles from downtown Elkins, the home of Augusta Heritage Center and Davis & Elkins College. Augusta offers year round concerts, dances, a festival and other heritage arts events. One of the biggest annual events in the state, the famed Mountain State Forest Festival,  takes place in Elkins, too.
