Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Relax and rejuvenate on our 190 acre mountain paradise - a unique WV experience offering 5+ miles of hiking trails, fishin' ponds, mountain top patio, dark skies star gazing, wildlife watching. Dry Run Spirits moonshine distillery is on site. Ask for a tasting of apple brandy, maple moonshine and apple pie liqueur. We have free WIFI and ATT reception at the lodge. Each of our lodging spaces is set apart from others (the barn cabin and the solar snug cabin are the closest at about 100' apart) and are unique, varying from a luxury apartment to an off grid solar cabin. Each cabin has a fire pit and picnic table and is stocked with essentials - linens, towels, plates, cups, utensils, some pots, pans, spices, oil, coffee, etc. Many amenities are available such as the use of the event kitchen (available most of the time), 900 sq ft picnic pavilion, free spring water, free firewood. We are about 1 hr 15 mins from Harrisonburg VA, and about 3 1/2 hours from the Washington DC metro area, Richmond VA, or Pittsburgh PA. Our closest town, Franklin WV, is 10 mins away. Seneca Rocks, nRocks, Spruce Knob are within an hour's lovely drive. Monterey VA and the gorgeous Blue Grass Valley are within 30 mins. Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Green Bank Observatory, Canaan Valley are superb day trips. The Thorn Creek Wildlife Management area, renowned for trout fishing, is 10 mins away. We are on a scenic bicycle / motorcycle route. Bonus - The 1800s Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm with its 16 remaining buildings, an historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, is on property - please explore it! It was a self sustaining Appalachian homestead. The Pitsenbargers were hard workers, but also quite colorful characters who employed witch-doctoring, used healing herbs, and enjoyed entertaining, playing music, and making and drinking lots of hard cider. The main road to the Harrisonburg VA area went right by their house and they had a lot of visitors who took a break from their travels and their work to visit, i.e. "loaf." As a result, in the 1800s locals called the property "Loafer's Glory." We think the name is still perfect for the place! Come on out and relax - "loaf" a little bit!

Loafer's Glory Rustic Camp Cabin
Snug Cabin Rental
Teresa and Jeff were wonderful hosts! The property was breathtaking during peak fall season. We enjoyed walking our dog on the property's many hiking trails, taking in the beautiful views, and tasting the moonshine made on the property. The cabin was cozy, the beds were comfortable, and the fire pit outside was a nice place to star gaze. The cabin was plenty warm with the little heater provided, and we didn't even run it while we slept. We look forward to going back!

Scenic getaway w lots of activities
Theresa and Jeff have a gem of a piece of land. I did a lot of research for the perfect getaway spot and I definitely chose right! The land has a short hike to a breathtaking view with a little picnic table they set up. There’s also an old homestead with a well-researched, very thorough self guided tour that can easily take you a few hours to see and learn everything. I also highly recommend a tasting - Jeff puts a lot of work and passion into the distillery and he and Theresa are so personable and a joy to talk to. Hope to be back soon!

Loafer's Glory Private RetroRetreat
Amazing
I loved this place. Loved it. You are basically in your own valley, with water, power, etc. A short walk from the lodge. A short drive from town. It's that wild West Virginia country you're looking for but without actually being all that isolated (if you've broken down in the wild before, it's not fun). We relaxed, hiked, biked, and grilled out. We will be back!

A hidden gem
An absolute hidden gem. A very special place laden with history, stunning natural beauty and the most hospitable hosts in Teresa and Jeff. Our children loved it and didn’t want to leave - we felt the same and will return. Where else can you find an 19th century historic homestead, a traditional distillery (the Maple Moonshine and Apple Brandy are delicious), hummingbirds and a night sky so dark the Milky Way is easily seen on a clear night? Thank you
