Buffalo Gap Retreat is a beautiful mountain escape just 35 minutes west of Winchester, VA near the beautiful town of Capon Bridge, WV.   We have 30+ campsites all with stone fire pits and included firewood for you to choose from and a list of amenities that make a days stay or a weeks stay exciting and fun.

With many on-site and things nearby to do including kayaking & canoeing (provided), a wood fired sauna, beach, lake, volleyball, horseshoes, ladders and corn hole, creeks, bon-fires, fire pits, charcoal grills and more, Buffalo Gap makes for a great mountain escape.

Our property includes a 3200 square foot lake view dining hall with full service cafe / restaurant as well as a huge stage with occasional performances, concerts and even Open Mic many Friday or Saturdays.

We also have a 2 acre lake with a log cabin wood fired sauna and floating dock, great for fishing and playing.... and a sandy beach area with volleyball.

Further we have a 4000 square foot covered log-hewn pavilion with games and shelter from weather as well as a 10,000 square foot gym with 8 basketball nets and two full court.

We have a lower main campground area with 22 stone fire pits and an upper, hillside and lakeview camping area with 11 stone fire pits.  Many sites have picnic tables and a few have charcoal grills - but grills and picnic tables are located in several common areas for all to use.

This place has tons of fun stuff to do, and it's so convenient that they let you use their boats and that they give free firewood! Site was nice and flat. Pretty private. Lots of fire pit options. And really easy to find.

Lots of people around the lake in the afternoon, so it's easy to make new friends if you're hoping to!

As another has mentioned, after the rains it was a little swampy in the tent area--tent platforms or something would really add to the location, but it's still fine without that.

The only legitimate complaint I had was that we were woken up at about 6:45am by someone operating some big machinery (a Bobcat or something similar) around the lake about 150 yards from the tent site, which was really unpleasant.

Overall, a 6/10 experience.

Camping under the shade of this tree meant a perfect place to eat breakfast. The lake, with canoes you can use! Such a fun place!!These signs show you where to turn to get to the campground!Pathway from the tent sites to the bathroom.

Buffalo Gap is a great place with fun amenities in a good location. The site is clean, has free fire wood, great pond with free equipment to use and a fire burning sauna on the pond. Quiet hours are enforced (10pm to 8 am) and Vince (the owner) is great and dealt with a not so pleasant issue that we encountered straight away. Michelle the caretaker was also incredibly helpful and very friendly. Due to the heavy rains the tent site was a bit boggy and as the nearest portaloo was in the main site it wasn't very pleasant having to trapse through wet grass when you needed to go to loo...would be great if they had a portaloo in the campsite as well. I did feel a little bit vulnerable in the tent area as it is a bit away from the main office, everyone else and no security lights, thankfully we had our dog with us and that was a comfort. The site allows you to enjoy nature, have fun and relax as much as you want too. All in all Buffalo gap is a great place with enough to keep young and old happy.

And yes, we plan on more and better lighting in the campground area... we make big strides in improvements monthly, and we are now in our official first year of Buffalo Gap Retreat and moving fast towards making it even more amazing. Thanks for coming and hope to see you again soon!

It was a nice, secluded little place! It was a little difficult to find at first, but only because we were driving in the dark. Once there it was super nice and we were able to choose a nice fire pit. There’s a beautiful, clean lake with things like kayaking available. All in all a beautiful little hidden spot

No greeter to tell you where the campsites were located. Grass had not been cut. Felt more like cop a squat area. Campers were nice though but area seemed unkempt.

We stayed here for a weekend and enjoyed the place alot. Bathrooms are really nice and wow the showers had super hot water which was nice. If you are tent camping be prepared to not be allowed to park right at your campsite. Apparently the county has a law against it due to people driving over tents. The game building was nice and we took advantage of the covered pavilion during the 12 hour rain storm we had. Not sure why there is a street light on too of the hill near those campsites. Made star gazing really hard and if you need total darkness to sleep it made it rough. Our only complaints were the street light and the law requiring us to not park near the site. Other then those this place is a must especially if you are going to Chaos or Bigdogs and want showers.
