Come Camp along the bank of the enchanting Salmon Creek River beneath towering cedar and fir trees whilst songbirds chatter all around! Sit with your toes in cool water beneath the dappled light of the big leaf maple or find a sunnier spot on our tiny bank to relax. This piece of HEAVEN is the perfect river for children of all ages because of the varying depths, abundance of wildlife and scenic views. You can wade, take a dip in the small swim 'n' splash hole, kayak, fish or catch crawdads for supper. There is also a magical forest to wander through plus chickens and goats to feed!
This oasis is secluded except between the hours of 1 and 8 unless our family and friends come down to play in the creek. Aside from that, it's all yours to laugh and sing the night away.
The main camping area and tent site are almost completely out of view of our neighbors across the way. This camp on the bank of the river is a pretty good size clearing that comfortably accommodate 2 tent sites, has a picnic table and firepit. More can be set up in the forest nearby if needed. There is also an option for a smaller but more private camp in the forest.
There is garden cart to transport any gear down the 2-3 minute walk to the creek. After you pass through the garden there is a decent slope as you descend so If you need help with the cart, we'd love to be of assistance.

We really enjoyed our impromptu stay with Julie. The spot was down a hill and quite a ways from the house and almost completely surrounded by trees and foliage, making for a secluded escape. We loved being right next to the creek, not just for the lovely sound, but wading and washing up. The campfire circle was great (bonus: they had chopped wood for us!), and the toilet situation was just as described--and also very secluded. ;)
Julie was super responsive when I was booking and very friendly in person. She and her family were ready to help if we needed anything. Note that they have 2 friendly dogs, but they were quiet and not a problem at all. I wish I had taken more pictures, but we just set up camp and got down with relaxing! :D
Our spot on the creek was awesome! I will definitely be back. When I do, I'll be sure to get a Radio Flyer wagon for the trips from the car since you have to park on the road and walk through the garden. It was very peaceful and relaxing — retreat is the perfect word.
First time ever using hip camp. Julie was super funny, her kids and husband were so helpful with everything from unloading to loading.. this camp site is also super great for kids! I also loved waking up to the birds chirping.
Advice for future campers
Don't come if you arent a big fan of kids
Dont come if you cant share your site. This site os the only acess to the creek so people will come and go untill 8. Then its all yours. Nobody likes a dummy downer
Short distance from town getaway
Salmon Creek Riverside Retreat is a peaceful getaway just outside of the city. If you need a breather from everyday life, I recommend pitching a tent, cooking food over the fire pit, and taking a soak in the river. You won’t regret it!
It is a great place for kids to play in a shallow creek, run around in the woods, and roast marshmallows around a fire. The creek is really lovely. Great place to cool off...water and shade. Lots of boats and paddles for kids to use. The outhouse was brand new and clean! You do have to walk down a hill to the campsite, and back up to unload your car, but thankfully they had a large wagon that is available for use. I do recommend bringing earplugs as they have roosters and other animals in a fenced area near their house, and the roosters are loud in the early hours of the morning. The site seemed mostly private with trees surrounding, but the owners' house is just up the hill, and occasionally their kids came down to splash in the water. They were respectful and kept their distance. Wanted to mention, in case you wanted complete privacy. Overall, it was a great place to escape the city without being too far from town, and enjoy nature- big trees and a creek. Kids will love it!
It is a beautiful, clean and private campground off a homey, rustic farm. Julie and her boys did their best at communicating and making our stay comfortable. Our family had the most relaxing camp experience. We had the section of the creek to ourselves and it was a good shallow depth throughout for our kids to safely play in. The composting toilet shed was new, well-planned and comfortable to use. It is a bit of a legwork hauling our camp stuff with the cart, up and down from the driveway and down to the creek but it doesn’t deter us from wanting to come back again!
We enjoyed spending the day at this campsite, cooling off by the river and enjoying the sights and sounds, however we ended up having to leave that same evening as the owners dog got loose and attacked both of our dogs, injuring one. I would not recommend bringing any dogs to this site.
