A lovely site for nonsmokers
The site, the host, and the accommodations were lovely, but it wasn't the experience I was looking for. So this review has no bearing on the site, but is more of a statement for first time HipCamp users. This particular site is better suited for people who enjoy an intentional community with clearly defined rules, rather than for a wild child like me. The rules make for an excellent experience for people who are looking for a smoke free, quiet environment, but I made a mistake in picking it, which is wholly my fault. The site had wonderful accommodations like a kitchen, composting toilets, hot showers, and communal fire place.
However, the communal nature of the site worked against me, as I'm a bit if a lone wolf when camping. For example, I did not see that the site was strictly non-smoking, which was my own oversight. I would have preferred a spot where I could smoke cannabis around the campfire, but now I know to do more research and ask more questions. I also should have asked more questions about things like how far apart the sites are, how far away from neighborly noise, etc. Since this was my first time using HipCamp, I learned a lot from this experience, and the main takeaway is to be sure to be a good communicator with your host and truly understand what kind of experience you're looking for, and what their boundaries are, since it's their property and they are kind enough to share their space with you. My host was quite gracious and kind, despite the fact that I probably wasn't an ideal camper for their particular property.
For me, I'm looking for the kind of experience where I can be a bit loud, a bit stoned, and maybe dance naked around a fire. I've learned now that I need to be more inquisitive and not just glance over the rules and regulations. I feel a bit like a bad guest, because I may have disturbed my neighbors by having to pass through several gates to smoke off property. So, be sure to really find out if you will jibe with the site you pick. I have zero complaints about this site, and any disappointment I may have was entirely my own doing from not paying close attention.
