Historic Bluff Sunset Retreat
Sleep in
Sleep in the bunker itself, or pitch your tent (or ours) & sleep under the stars listening to the waves lap. Watch amazing sunsets from the roof while enjoying the total privacy and serenity of this special forest retreat. You will feel a world away, while watching the bald eagles and whales play right out front.
Off-Grid: Think camping with a roof. No power. No water. Wood-stove for heat. A propane fire-ring is provided instead of a wood-burning fire-pit outside for heat and ambiance (no cooking) during burn ban season. Propane stove outside for cooking.
If you need provisions, (no other reason to ever leave) it is just a 10 minute drive or 1 hour bike ride into downtown Port Townsend with all of the beauty, art, history, and festivals that this Victorian Seaport has to offer.
A 10 minute drive to Fort Worden State Park with sandy beaches, kayak rentals, a marine science center, bar, restaurant, and a light house. We even have Alpenfire, the 1st organic cidery in the state, a few minutes down the road in the woods with a tasting room and lawn games. We are long-time locals who love to share insight about the area, feel free to ask!
The neighborhood is mostly small homes on acreage, with quiet neighbors who like to keep to themselves. Please respect them by keeping noise levels down and not leaving the property boundaries which are marked with orange flags and stakes.

The bunker has a vintage cast iron wood-fired cook stove for heating and boiling water in the provided kettle only. No cooking on the stove is allowed. A wood pile outside will keep you cozy. Please add a wood bundle to your reservatiin for a campfire.

The site was so amazing, the view and area was beautiful. We set up a tent to sleep in, but having the bunker to go into at night to be warm and play games before bed really added to the experience. We were able to use the campfire and gas grill to cook, everything you would need was right there. There was no noise pollution, we could only hear the birds and the waves. Perfect getaway. We even saw a deer on the road out.

Our interest was piqued by history of world war II bunker and the ability to camp comfortably in the shoulder season in rainy NW. What was even more amazing, however, was being perched on a totally private bluff with panoramic views of protection island wild bird preserve and the straits of Juan de Fuca. We watched a pair of eagles carrying sticks and building a nest right on the property, as well as distant freighters sailing out to the ocean. It was quiet, private, and surprisingly sunny, given that Port Townsend is partially in the rain shadow of the Olympic mountains.
The bunker itself, build in 1939 is a real piece of history. According to our host, M. It would have been inhabited at that time by 2 soldiers who spent their days peering through giant telescope looking for enemy craft. it is likely more comfortable now - with a queen sized bed as well as a sweet fold down "reading nook" bunk with views of the water. The antique wood cookstove was easy to use and kept us warm through most the night. We had brought sleeping bags, which probably helped also. We also had an outdoor stove which made dinner prep easy. There is no running water, but M thoughtfully left us some drinking water and "emergency" beer!
We brought our two dogs and kept them on leashes, both because of wildlife (deer and eagles seen) and because of the bluff. There is a fence for safety, but any small kids would need a close eye also!
the location was close to Port Townsend, which has lots of great offerings in terms of cool victorian houses, bakeries, coffeeshops, and walks. If you have time a walk at Fort Worden and the marine science center are well worth the time, as well as the Uptown farmers market on Saturdays.

Thanks so much for staying with us and takiing great care of the place, glad you had fun. You guys are welcome back anytime!
Tucked away in the woods of Port Townsend is this rad little WWII bunker. We were greeted by our host upon arrival and given a tour. Not only is the outdoor space beautiful, with stunning views of protection island and the straight of Juan de Fuca, but the inside of the bunker was equally awesome. The bunker is stocked with a table, chairs, two beds (a double and a small lofted bunk), a sink and a wood burning stove to help keep warm during the night. The toilet can be found outside the bunker, just a few meters down – TP and a light are inside. A fire pit, lounging chairs and a picnic table are located just outside the bunker, perfect for stargazing or enjoying a meal and watching the sunset. There is also a camping stove that we used to make dinner. We also brought our own sleeping bags, extra water, and adult beverages, but the bunker had a few extra items (bottled water, beer, utensils) incase we forgot anything. The property is only about 15-20min away from downtown Port Townsend, which has tons of restaurants, shops, and water/beach access. I cannot wait to visit this property again!

We had a great stay at the bunker. We loved seeing the bald eagles and a submarine in the Strait. We visited the farmers market and downtown Port Townsend. We hope to bring some family out to this spot when the Airstream is ready. The history of this place is fascinating. What a view too!

Thanks so much, you guys were the perfect guests and it makes us so happy to get to share our special land with others who appreciate it as much as we do!

This place was heaven on earth! The bunker was amazing, and the view was breathtaking! A truly unique, incredible camping experience. C was so kind, welcoming and shared the really cool history of the bunker bluff as well as what to do/see in the area. We also had the incredibly fortunate experience of seeing an eagle family that made their home in a nearby tree. All necessities for the perfect outdoor experience were provided, and this place exceeded our expectations! A truly wonderful experience - we will definitely be back again!

Thanks again, please come back soon!

Had an absolutely amazing time staying at bunker bluff retreat. The eagles greeted us as soon as we drove up, and kept us entertained throughout our stay. We were given a couple of great recommendations on where to go to eat and ended up grabbing some beers and ordering to go food from the pourhouse, a great little spot on the water. The sunset was amazing, and we ended the night stargazing.
Can’t wait to come back! Have been telling my family and friends about the coolest place I’ve ever camped. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for being awesome guests! Hppe to see you again soon!
