General description of the overall property.

Bring your gear and hike our 40 acres to escape into nature. Climb the hill for views of the valley and Lake Roosevelt or explore in the trees for a more secluded feel. Plenty of sunshine during the day and an amazing amount of stars at night. At just the right time you might even see the Aurora Borealis. Our property is bordered by vast acres of timberland, beautiful thick underbrush, and an open meadow. Our 40 acres provide plenty of room to roam and we encourage you to do so. Enjoy the wildlife, we have deer, elk, wild turkeys, various bird life including magpies, and eagles that frequent the property.

We are only 5 miles from the Kettle river, and a small grocery store for your use and enjoyment during your stay. A few miles beyond that is Lake Roosevelt/Columbia river for swimming, boating, kayaking, and fishing. In the winter bring your 4x4, and cold weather gear and do some snow camping, pack your snowshoes and take in a peaceful hike or go sledding.

We are a primitive site, a composting toilet and water will be provided. We have a strict policy of pack it in, pack it out, as well as leave no trace.

We would also like to offer a work/trade option to those who are looking to stay and help out on the property. Come put in some sweat equity and then sleep under the stars. Send me a message through here and we can discuss the details.  Please come and enjoy our property, we look forward to meeting you.

Beautiful spot. And yes, you do need 4WD to get up to the campsite,

It's a primitive site with amazing views. The host was great and brought up our bundle of wood and composting toilet immediately after arrival. The wood was good and dry, but the fire pit left us feeling a little uneasy about having a fire. The pit is little more than a few rocks about the size of my foot arranged in a circle, surrounded by dry grass. With the hilltop location, the site receives plenty of wind making a fire feel a little sketchy.
This site does provide great views of the surrounding landscape and with a short hike the Columbia River.
No lie about requiring 4WD to get up to the site. I'm guessing you also need about 8" of ground clearance, otherwise you're leaving your car and hitching a ride with the host.
We'd never stayed in the Kettle Falls area, and this was a nice spot to take in the beauty.

I stayed on the Hill Top Haven site, and you truly are on the very top of a hill with 360 degree views of the surrounding forests and farms. Angie and Ray are incredible hosts and helpful with anything you need. I had such a great time hiking around and exploring the forests on their 40 acre property, and a short drive down the road you can swim in the river nearby.

I also took the Fire School with Ray and it is a must! Ray was on the show ‘Alone’ where people are sent out into the wilderness by themselves to survive. Ray has an incredible knowledge of fire making and he taught me how to use a ferro rod, flint and steel, and most satisfying of all he coached me into making a fire with a bow drill! Beforehand, we also walked the forest to collect and process materials for fire making, and he also taught me about the wild edible plants in the area, and we snacked on nettle and plantain. Highly recommended!
