Homestead with a View is a unique, rustic getaway for those looking to enjoy the Lake Chelan experience in peace and quiet surrounded by a spectacular landscape. The little cabin was spotless, comfortable, and ready for us upon arrival. Horses and honeybees greeted us as we came in. The cabin is on property that is owned by a DIY off-grid, homestead champ (she's built out the place bit by bit by hand) She lives on the property as well, but gives guests their privacy. In terms of making arrangements, our host was super responsive and communication was easy.
Cabin with a view
Wow. Story is a great host and has built an amazing cabin on an enviable piece of property. I work in Seattle as a service plumber and sometimes don’t get off of work until very late. I explained this to Story to which she said no worries. She left the cabin unlocked and heated for us. The cabin is secluded and clean and romantic. The views from the deck are picturesque. 10 out of 10 , rustic scenery perfect for a desert get away.
Can't wait to go back!
This was exactly what I was looking for -- a relaxing, offgrid cabin. The drive up to the cabin and the view were absolutely magical. There were a couple horses and goats right outside the cabin.
I would see the hosts working the homestead and got the feeling that they'd be up for chatting if that's what I wanted to do -- but I was looking for a quiet place to think/write so holed myself up in the cabin. The hosts' house was walking distance away -- I tend to get panicky if I feel like I'm extremely cut off from people and since I was staying alone, I found it really nice that folks weren't too terribly far away while still giving me every single bit of peace/quiet I wanted.
The cabin itself is great, with lots of places to sit, lots of windows, and a very comfortable bed. There's a view of sunset over the Columbia and mountains from inside and the porch and it was absolutely beautiful. There is a pit toilet outhouse very close by that was exactly what I'd expect out of an outhouse; no better and no worse.
Directions were absolutely perfect -- Google Maps did a lot of the heavy lifting, and then Story's directions got me all the way to the cabin. Note that I drive a Grand Caravan minivan and I pushed it about to its limits getting to the cabin in dry, summer conditions.
Loved it, can't wait to have another opportunity to get back, and will absolutely be telling everybody I know that wants to visit the area to check it out.
