Pitch your tent in a private, mountainside pasture near Olympic National Park. Spectacular views of mountains and the Elwha River Valley are available from your camp site. A short walk down the road reveals multiple places to access the Elwha River. In the Fall the return of the salmon are able to be seen in the shallow areas of the river. Our place is named the Ghost Herd Ranch for the wild elk that come and go across the property. At night you can hear the river and sometimes and owl on the back hill.
The campsite is located up a short, steep hill that is only accessible by foot. All gear must be packed in and out on foot. All food and garbage must be contained in the provided metal box prior to retiring for the evening, or leaving the site for the day. Parking is available directly at the bottom of the hill, as is a port o potty.
The campsite has a water spigot and hose with unfiltered well water. There is a fire pit for use with firewood and kindling provided, on nights when there is no burn ban. While the campsite is in a private pasture, it remains close to our house. The pasture is mowed, allowing you to choose where you locate your tent. We provide a picnic table for your use. The campsite is "carved" out of the woods with an electric fence surrounding it. This allows my horse to graze the upper pasture, and he may come and visit you. While the fence is no danger if not touched, it will sting terribly if you touch it. The fence is well marked and easy to avoid; I just feel that you should be aware of it prior to booking. The campsite is on the edge of the wilderness area, and with that brings all varieties of wildlife that one could expect in that area. Please prepare yourself accordingly, as you would camping in any wilderness area.
