Visit local Cherry Creek Falls and then camp out in this large private site. Several acres will be yours to enjoy. Park your vehicle along side our wild creek and follow a ribbon 2-minutes up a nature trail to the clear and open camp site. You will pass salmon berries, blackberries and sword and licourice ferns on your ascent (1/8th of a mile). You may pitch a tent in shade or sun in a flat grassy meadow. Woodpeckers have made nests in several dead trees here and you will likely hear them or see them flying into or out of holes in the trees. Humming birds are also very common. On a clear day you will have views of Mount Si to the east, and squak mountain to the south. This is a very natural and private location that has not been disturbed. Deer tracks can usually be seen as they visit daily. Tree shade is available for the summer afternoon otherwise a grassy area provides ample space for frisbee, croquet or just resting in nature. The spot is super cute and definitely very private. The compost toilet and shower area were such a nice touch. The shower is just a hose with a spray nozzle and only has cold water but it was nice to be able to clean off after a couple of days. The little meadow area got plenty of sun but the one tree in the middle also provided the perfect amount of shade at all the right times. We randomly got to meet the hosts son out on the road where you park. He was a smart little kid and quite the delight to talk to. We also met their goat who wandered into our camp as we were packing to leave. She was the sweeeetest goat. I wanted to take her with me :)
The surrounding area was great to explore also. We brought our inflatable kayak and some fishing poles and spent some time on Lake Margaret which was super relaxing and fun. It's only a 5 minute drive away. Also, just down the street is the trail head for Cherry Creek Falls which was a beautiful hike. It's about an hour to the falls and totally worth the jaunt.
Overall it was really cute and pretty awesome. I only have a few complaints. Unfortunately, there was no really flat spot to set up the tent. It was pretty lumpy or slanted just about everywhere. Around the fire pit it was hard to set up a chair for the same reason. It was slated inward toward the fire so every chair tipped in towards the fire as well. These things were minor in my opinion. The main complaint was the dogs... ALL NIGHT there was barking from all of the various dogs in the surrounding area. And this wasn't just a little barking. It was a stressed sounding bark and constant. One dog in particular would not stop and he in turn would get all the others going. It was very hard to sleep. I wished I would have brought ear plugs.
Overall the host was great, the spot was cute and clean, and the surrounding area was fun to explore. If it weren't for the dogs I would definitely book again.
Had a great time at this private little spot. The short walk to the site is a bit tougher and uphill then we expected and the nearby dogs barked a lot. We would still visit again for the beauty and privacy of the space.
