Beautiful meadow & private campsite
We enjoyed our time at Natural Roots farm during the July 4th weekend. We did have some difficulty finding the campsite area as the farm is not clearly marked and had to wait for Rebecca to come out to tell us about the access road to get to the campsite. The parking space is about a 10-12 minute walk from the campsite. Thankfully we had some helping transporting our camping gear to the campsite but, as there was no bear/bug box, we found it cumbersome to lug food items back and forth. Be aware that the site is in a meadow, and thus in hot weather, it becomes unbearable to stay nearby without any shade. The camping at Natural Roots is fairly new. They have not yet built any bathrooms for guests, despite what the site says. I hope they remove availability of toilets from their site description. Overall, we had a good stay that could have been a lot better with a shorter walk to the car, bathrooms (or transparency about no bathrooms) and better weather!
Very friendly and helpful host. Everything was as they advertised. Nice private campsite- very close to Shenandoah hiking. Spots 2 and 3 best for shade if it’s hot (and it was!!)
Experience a glimpse of farm life
Pulling up to their farmhouse, we were immediately greeted by our host as well as a flock of ducks. My children (and I) enjoyed seeing the variety of animals on their property, including newborn bunnies.
The camp site was located a distance away that required a short drive, and our host used his small tractor to tote us, our bags, and our gear up a dirt road to a spacious, scenic meadow. The first campsite is right at the top, so easiest access but other campers will walk by your site. We stayed at the second site. Each have a fire pit and picnic table. Even though we had a bit of rain and are new to camping with young kids, our host ensured we had what we needed for the best stay including loaning a tarp, matches, and sticks for roasting marshmallows.
Great scenic getaway!
My group and I had a great time at Natural Roots farm! We arrived to courteous hosts that welcomed us to a clean campsite with a great view of the mountains. They gave us great tips for nearby fishing spots and where to get more supplies. Overall great stay and would go back again!
We really enjoyed our stay at Natural Roots Farm!!! The site was very well kept and set in a beautiful field. William, the owner, went out of his way to make sure our stay was easy and enjoyable -- shuttling our (many!) items to our site and making sure we had enough fire wood for our stay. This area has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty with a multitude of hiking trails and swimming holes in the vicinity. We would recommend this site without hesitate and are excited to plan our trip back!
Secluded shenandoah base camp
Lovely, quiet and large site with everything we needed! Easy to find and amazing views of mountains and meadows. Upon arrival, Rebecca’s husband met us and led us to a parking spot about three quarters of a mile from the site. He carted us and our stuff to the site and gave us a tour of the land. We were provided with 5 gallons of water, firewood, a fire pit, picnic table and trash can. Felt safe and peaceful and is super close to the Swift Run Gap entrance of Shenandoah.
Great private spot
We had a great stay! The owners were really wonderful and hospitable, and were able to help us out with transport to and from the site, since we had a camper who was injured and couldn’t manage the 5 min walk from the car. They were also able to accommodate us when we needed more firewood than we had originally thought and were super friendly. We even got great advice on nearby wineries. It is exposed and sunny during the day, so if you plan to hang around the camp be sure to bring a sun shade of some sort.
Parking entrance is a little different than in the directions and service is spotty so I would make sure to coordinate before arriving.
I would definitely recommend this spot for a secluded getaway!
The host was incredibly nice and responsive. He responded quickly to texts and requests. The site is a good walk from where you park, but the host brought a cart and offered to take our stuff to our site for us! We had site 2, and it was tucked in a corner of a beautiful field! It couldn’t have been a better experience!
