We loved our stay at James River! Being steps away from the river was so relaxing. Wendy was such a great host, we communicated in advance and she went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect! The only negative was trying to find the place in the dark, but we managed and everything else was perfect! Thank you so much for a lovely weekend Wendy, we hope to be back soon!
Great spot by water, with trains!
Wonderful site, right by the water. Loved this spot with my dog.
Host clarified the directions via chat, and even marked the turnoff and the site itself with a reflector!
Be aware that the site is within earshot of the railroad track, and the evening trains were somewhat unexpected.
The host met me upon arrival and showed me all the site he had available. The site was located on the banks of the James river adjacent to a hay farm. There was a fire ring and a picnic table. It was very comfortable and beautiful.
We were looking for a place to crash for the night, what we found was a little slice of paradise. This location was perfect. Serene, peaceful, and beautiful. The river is amazing and it was so fun to put our feet in the water and let our dog swim. We will definitely be back.
Great spot for paddling the james!
Our trip to Wendy's was terrific, the location was beautiful and she was super accommodating as a host. We visited over memorial day weekend, and she was kind enough to rent us a couple kayaks and recruit her son to shuttle us up to the boat launch in Buchanan. It was a beautiful stretch of river, and always great to be able to pull out right at your camp. Wendy was also quick and responsive with any questions we had, and made getting in a breeze.
Fantastic location with well maintained campsites and great location in a stand of trees between a river and hayfield. Highly recommended! One thing to note is that all camping sites are within sight of two train tracks (although reasonable distant from both, roughly ~300 feet and ~1000 feet distant, could be more), which have freight trains passing at odd hours- I am personally a fan of trains so this was a plus for me!
First time using Hip Camp, and this was perfect! It was the solitude (and ability to go leash free) that the dogs and I needed after a couple of nights at crowded public campgrounds. Wendy was quick to communicate and give directions. Grounds were clean. I hope to be back with a fishing pole next time!
Great first experience using Hip Camp. Beautiful scenery and much needed solitude and room to stretch off leash for the dogs. Hope to be back with a fishing pole next time.
