Experience life on the farm!  Immerse yourself in country living and taste what it's like to live and work on a sustainable farm. While camping here as our guest, you'll be able to interact with our cows, turkeys and chickens (and honeybees if you like!), and learn about how we work and maintain our 42-acre farm as we work toward total sustainability.

You'll pitch your tent in the woods and fields in the heart of the property, known as "Haven", for a secluded experience, but will be welcome to explore the rest of the farm and pasture around the Farmstead at the front of the property also. There's a map of the farm in our listing photos to help you get to know your way around.

If you want a more hands-on experience with your stay, you're welcome to help with the farm chores.  Want to milk a cow?  feed chickens? Collect fresh eggs? This is the perfect place to live that country life!

We spent two wonderful nights at mistymorningsunrise farm. From the beginning on we felt like a part of the family - the hospitality went far beyond our expectations. All members of the family did their outmost best to provide us with everything we needed: A wood stove, picnic table, shower and camping toilet right at the campsite, which was, by the way, beautiful. On top of that we also could learn a lot from Daniel as he showed us around the farm and even let us try to milk one of the goats. We highly recommend this hipcamp to everyone who wants to stay at a campground in the middle of untouched nature.

Our first HipCampers - What an awesome memory for us. In many ways, when you host your first guests, it becomes the benchmark for all subsequent visits. We could not have asked for a better situation. Three precious students, two from Germany and one from France had finished up a course of study in Florida and had purchased a 1960s VW van (with a camper conversion). Working their way north, they eventually toured D.C. and then flew back to the continent, making their way home. We got to host them here and try to make them feel like they had another home here as well as there. We found that we couldn't help but love them and still consider them to like an extension of our own family, all of whom are now grown. Thank you Luis, Paul and Agathe. We still speak of your visit with fondness and miss you.

This is the nicest family I've ever met. They're so kind, and generous. We arrived and were immediately shown to our campsite. Due to the current pandemic (Covid) our group of 4 had access to the entire back of the property -- lots of space. Even in non-pandemic times, the field is large enough for many camping parties.

They built a convenient "out-house" for their hipcampers and were in the process of adding a shower feature with solar heated water. There is a large, communal fire pit with benches as well as a picnic table.

The family also provided potable water and drinking water and were easily accessible by texting. They really seem like they care about their hipcampers having a comfortable stay.

We opted for a tour of the farm and were impressed by the knowledge we gained about farming, gardening, clean sources of food, honey bees, money saving tips, etc.

A note about the religious aspect: As is mentioned while paying for this hipcamp site, this family is religious. If religion is not your cup-o-tea, I would still highly recommend staying there. During the tour, religion was not discussed at all. They were simply excited to show off their farm and how it worked. Personally, I'm fascinated by religion and before we departed, our group engaged them on the topic. They were incredibly open and we had a great conversation. Simply stated, they're just really nice people. Thats the takeaway.

Also, they sent us on our way with a gift of a dozen eggs. We also bought some deodorant, candles, and honey (you can check out their farm online). Having said all of the above, if you prefer a private, low-key hang in the solitude of your campsite, I'd still highly recommend this place. There was no pressure at all to go on the tour, or to purchase items from their farm. We're the kind of people who are into that kind of stuff, and we prompted a lot of the conversations and wanted to go on the tour.

We'll definitely be back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thanks!

I'm humbled by your kind and gracious words, Bryce. We wish that the miles were not so many between our respective homes, but want you to consider this a home away from home. We enjoyed so much the interaction and the stimulating questions. If there was one takeaway (as you described it), it is that each person who we are privileged to host here takes away a bit of our hearts with them when they depart. Looking back, we've come to realize that hosting others has added a dimension to our lives which is so much richer than it ever was before we began this journey. Thank you, Bryce.

We were welcomed immediately and brought complimentary eggs from Benjamin and Leia. The Grove we were designated to was more than accommodating with a brick stove, three benches, fire pit, and a nearby restroom. Water was also provided for shower purposes or you can just use it for rinsing dishes washing hands etc. We were fortunate to have a clear night and we're amazed by the abundance of nearby fireflies that literally lit up the entire Grove and adjacent treeline. Beautiful evening and I would definitely recommend it. Thank you to the family for welcoming us to your home.

Hi, William - Benjamin's dad here. You've got a gift for writing. I enjoyed your description and realized that you described the site better than I could. Since your stay, we've now added a hot shower option for campers. Please feel free to drop in when you are next in the area to just catch us up on what's been going on with y'all. Be well.

Hi, Alison - Thank you for the great review - We would like to have had more time to go on a tour around the farm with you but realize that it still could happen when your schedule and circumstances permit. Please keep in touch and feel free to drop around whenever you happen to be in the area again. We can conduct a farm tour when you do so. Stay well, Alison.

We really enjoyed our stay! Daniel and Nava were wonderful hosts and were very accommodating and engaging. They hosted a really nice tour of the farm animals which we all loved as well as intriguing information on sustainable and humane farming! We had four kids with us and so we had fun doing normal camping things but this all added fun and education right on site!
This is not a complaint but just as a side note- when we were there— there were a lot of ticks so recommend bug spray and clothes that cover your skin well!

Hipcamper Daniel & Nava
Response from Daniel & Nava, the Host, on October 6th, 2020

Hi, Shannon - We enjoyed hosting y'all as much as y'all enjoyed staying here! We often feel like in a way, we are the true recipients of the blessing by being hosts. Please feel free to drop by and visit us whenever y'all are in this area. We always enjoy learning about what is going on in y'all's lives since we last visited. The advice about the ticks is excellent. I'm copying and pasting from a review posted before this one, so please forgive the repetition... it's just good sense: "Regarding the ticks you encountered, it might be that they only bother really sweet folks. No seriously, we have found that permethrin (a natural substance found in the marigold family of plants) is great when applied to tent fabrics and even clothing can be pre-washed in your machine at home can make a big difference. It's available in laboratory produced versions at Cabellas, Pro Bass Shops or on Amazon. It is also possible that a heavy rain before campers arrive brings them out more. Working as we do on the farm, we regularly perform tick checks before bed each night. Thankfully, it takes a while for a tick to attach themselves if they do. Also thankfully, Virginia is not on the high risk index for infected deer ticks, the less common variety around these parts." Thanks again, Shannon and we look forward to your next visit. Stay safe and well.

We enjoyed our experience camping at Misty Morning Sunrise Farm. The space they have set aside for campers is spacious and private. We met several members of the family and everyone was lovely and accommodating. And the farm-fresh eggs from the chickens that we passed on the way to our campsite were delicious!

Hipcamper Daniel & Nava
Response from Daniel & Nava, the Host, on October 6th, 2020

Christina - Thank you for your gracious comments. We tend to think that our chickens lay the best eggs in the Commonwealth and I'm sure that you'll agree that our opinion is completely unbiased. We are grateful that you had a good time camping here. These memories of the best camping experiences stay with families as young ones grow. They are what they'll talk about with their own children one day.

Hi, Matt - Thanks for the very kind comment which you left on the HipCamp site. As you may remember, I'm Benjamin's father and my dear wife Nava and I now officially host the campsites since Benjamin has his hands full doing other things. That's why the comments are showing our photo on the listing now instead of Benjamin's. We look forward to hosting you again sometime. Be well.

The hosts were in contact with us before we arrived. Upon arrival we were greeted by the family and led back to the site. The site was absolutly amazing. It had 4 benches around a large fire, a picnic table and rocket stove at the center area. The area is secluded but very open. This was not the best part at all. The family was the best part of the trip. The father took us on a tour where we started with delicious hot apple cider. We met the most dog-like turkey I have ever heard of. She would follow us and let the kids pet her. We met the chickens and their cows too. The family is very religious, Not the "in your face" type. they're are some if the most genuine, loving people ive ever met. At the end of the day, I felt like family.

Family friendly. Kids looking for worms.Very pretty area!Sustainable Farm-Camping Experience

I never knew how much fun it would be responding to reviews. James, even though I'm responding long after the fact, I remember your visit so well. We had the best time hosting you and your family. We've made some changes to the sites and encourage you to drop by when you are in the area next to see them. Remember, family doesn't need an invitation... and we felt the same way about all y'all. The truth is, after each family or group leaves following their stay with us, we feel like a part of us goes along with them too. Be well.
