We (Steven and Tracey) will again be sharing our beautiful piece of Mother Earth with registered Hipcamp guests only.  It is our best guarantee that our campers (your fellow campers) will be responsible and respectful of our property, of nature itself and of other campers.  It's why we created Hidden River Camping and why we accept only Hipcamp referrals.

As a Certified Wildlife Habitat and Monarch Butterfly Waystation, we are strictly focused on providing a low-density, high-sensory, natural experience for "on your own" responsible campers.

The Cabin @ Hidden River is nestled among the trees, about 60-75 feet uphill from the river's edge.  The Cabin has a screened-in front porch with two chairs that overlooks the river and the adjacent Riverside Campsite area.  The cabin is equipped with off-grid solar LED lighting and ventilation. The Cabin also includes a vintage table with chairs and two twin mattresses (wrapped in plastic and covered with a 10 mil tarp) upon which to lay your sleeping bags.  It is a very comfy arrangement!  While the Cabin is designed for two, the cabin grounds will also accommodate a number of tent camping sites for family and/or guests. Be aware that there is no "plug-in" electricity or "indoor plumbing".  The Cabin is within steps of a well-water spigot/hose and an enclosed outdoor well-water shower.  There is also a nearby Comfort Station (pit toilet) , fully enclosed and stocked with all needed supplies (tp, wet wipes, etc).  Cell phone calling is spotty, WiFi is non-existent, 4gLTE is usually not available, but word texting often works just fine. We are very proud and pleased to inform our potential guests that the entire Hidden River Camping area has been declared a Certified Wildlife Habitat and registered as a Designated Monarch Butterfly Waystation. Come spend a weekend in a secluded paradise.  Mother Nature awaits!

Pricing for the Cabin Camping Area is $45 for the Cabin itself (includes two guests), plus there is plenty of space for add'l tents at $10 for each add'l camper.  Children under 8yrs old camp for free when accompanied by a parent.  This park-like property is fabulous beyond belief!

Upon arrival, we will show you around the property and answer any questions you may have.  Beyond that, we believe in leaving the entertainment portion of the program to Mother Nature.

The wide and shallow, sandy-bottomed Staunton River is not only gorgeous, but very suitable for a cool refreshing dip or for tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing or just wading on a hot summer day.

There is also plenty of free firewood (gather/cut/chop your own) on-site.  I do have a limited supply of locally-sourced split logs at $1.00 per piece.

Immerse yourself for a day or two in the sounds, scents and scenes of unspoiled Nature.  Wildlife sightings as well as bird watching are great here.  From flutter by's of butterflies to screaming bald eagles, at Hidden River Camping you will find total escape from the sirens, traffic and hassles of the city... peace and tranquility, all at a ridiculously reasonable price.

Be also prepared for the nocturnal sights and sounds of rural America.  There is nothing quite like the experience of standing beneath a sky peppered with bright twinkling stars and colorful planets while fireflies dance and sparkle among the trees!  You will likely hear farm dogs and coyote, crickets, frogs and other creatures that buzz, croak and call out in the night.  And sometimes, even in the pitch darkness of night you will begin to feel and then hear the rumble of the coal train that rolls along the far side of the river.  At Hidden River you will experience the kind of unique in-country sleep that ultimately culminates in the fresh morning aromas of coffee, bacon and eggs popping and sizzling over a crackling fire.

4WD or AWD vehicles recommended or we can help get your gear to your campsite.  There is no access for trailers, campers, RV's or pop-ups.  Tent or cabin camping only.

All campsite areas are kept neatly mowed, but because we are a Certified Wildlife Habitat, much of the grounds at Hidden River Camping are kept as near-natural as possible and include the normal perils of Nature.  Camping at Hidden River is always At Your Own Risk.

Camping at Hidden River is only available Friday through Monday.  Please... no requests for "Same Day" reservations after 6pm.  Preferred check-in time is from 4pm to 6pm.  It's much easier to find your campsite and set up while it is still light out.  Late arrivals can be arranged, but remember, we are just normal go-to-bed-early country folks (LOL).

Amazing place! We met Steven and his wife (and their sweet dog) when we got there and they gave us the tour. Really nice, personable people. You can tell they have put in a lot of work to get it to how great it is. She told us about the plants she grows for butterflies and explained what makes it a Monarch Way Station. They are also starting an orchard and there are blueberry bushes that we were told to help ourselves to. The outdoor toilet was very clean, well stocked, and even had been adorably landscaped with flowers around it! The cabin was super cute and extremely well maintained. The screened in porch was a nice retreat for the few minutes of rain we ended up getting!
We spent the whole day at the river and it really is clear with a shallow, sandy bottom. Caught a few catfish in it at dusk. We saw deer, rabbits, probably 20 pileated woodpeckers, a variety of butterflies, and heard a chuck-wills-widow throughout the night. The stars were plentiful and I've never seen anything like all the fireflies in the trees at night. It looked like the tree tops were sparkling! Incredible!
Would love to visit again soon!

Second time staying here with Steven and Tracey and plan on making it an annual thing! They were flexible with us each time after we had to make a few change of plans. Property was just as lovely as we remembered and even had some more amenities this time! We almost cancelled out of fear the river would be too high after Steven kindly warned us about the conditions prior to our trip, but the whole time kept saying how glad we were that we decided to come anyway. We did end up being able to get in the river a bit and even if we hadn't, the amount of wildlife was more than enough entertainment.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was very comfortable and the added solar powered lights and fan were appreciated. My kids loved the space to explore and our hosts were lovely. The river was a little high while we were there but we got a swim in on our last day and it was beautiful. We will be back again.
