What a great spot just south of Richmond City. For anyone in RVA who loves Pocahontas State park this is in the area and is a big step up. Amy greeted us in her paint covered apron as she stepped out of the art space she has set up for classes and art gatherings. She showed us around and offered all kinds of things to do from kayaks to bike rides and her property had all kinds of kid-friendly things to do including a tree house. The property is located beside a giant state park with playgrounds, hiking, courts and fields. If you have any questions, Amy was super helpful before and during the stay.
You camp at the front of the property and Amy has enough sites for 10 or so tents. Each site is short mowed grass and has a fire ring under a giant open sky. During the day you do hear the going’s on in the park but at night it is super quiet. There is plenty of parking and a field to spread out and play. It is a short walk downhill to the dock which has a pretty impressive tiki bar and grill set up overlooking the water. I got to sit and relax while my son played in the sand box then back up to the tree house, tightrope, tetherball and rope swing.
We had an awesome time and hope to go back soon, I just hope I can convince some other families to join the fun.

Had a great time staying here! Property is beautiful and spacious. Lots of privacy in the winter when we came. Heated art room is great to escape the cold and lighted bathroom all night, not too far from campsites. Really great place to spend an overnight when traveling up 95 if you are staying in your vehicle or can tent camp.

Pros: This site ended up being OK for a rainy weekend. The art room was a great respite from the weather.

Cons: We were literally staying in overgrown brush. On one side of the brush was a public park, complete with soccer fields (and lighting). On the other side were houses. At no point did this feel like a true camping experience, nor was it a retreat.

The dock is lovely, as long as you don't look out to the left where you'll see a major highway. There are kayaks and other fun things to do, but the floating dock sits quite high and would make any entry into the water difficult and potentially dangerous. If you plan to use life vests, plan to bring your own as the ones provided are covered in stink bugs.

Each night you can fall asleep to the "relaxing" hum of traffic and you can view the twinkling stadium lights next door. Each morning you can wake to the host's neighbors walking their dog.

Really, the only redeeming quality about this site is the art room. It was great for 2 four year olds. If weather had been pleasant, however, the whole trip would have been extremely disappointing. Calling this a primitive campsite is a joke.

Just a quick overnight spot for us, very convient to 295, but far enough away to enjoy the peace & quiet. Great for starwatching too - minimal light pollution and easy to see the sky. Also had a fire pit at the site, which was great!

It was early in the season during our stay, so not a lot of blooms and kinda cold, but in warmer weather I can see this place really shining.

We arrived later than expected, but Amy was very gracious & gave us a tour. They also had additional air mattresses and bedding, etc. if you needed it - we didn't, but it was a nice touch.

It’s the best place my husband and I have found to camp. Amy provides the greatest amenities. I prefer it to be a secret because it really is our favorite place to be!

Amy was a wonderful host. The property is beautiful and set up nicely. She makes sure you feel welcome during your stay. She has an art studio which was closed due to covid but she put out arts and crafts for my 4 year old to do. We can’t explain in words how satisfied we are with our experience. 15/10 will book again.

I stayed here quickly for one night as a safe place to sleep on my camping road trip and was very glad that I did!! Amy is a very caring host that keeps her beautiful property looking clean and welcoming for her guests. The property had many different sites to chose from so we could find the one that best fit our setup, as well as an accessible bathroom and a beautiful grill on the water. The animals that live there are very sweet and made the stay even better and although there is some traffic noise at night it felt very safe and slept well through the night. I hope to visit again!

Amy was so kind and amazing. She provided firewood, fresh eggs, and even baked goods from her daughter. She gave a great tour of the property too. Our favorite feature was the riverfront it is down a very steep long hill so not accessible to everyone but we were able to swim and see fish jumping and a treat was watching a hawk swipe a fish! Do not leave home without bug spray! Like another reviewer said you can hear the highway but it wasn’t terrible it was like a constant hum in the middle of the night. Our first night we were the only campers but the second night two other groups joined. We lost the privacy of night one and could see and be seen by the other campers through brush/trees. Overall I look forward to coming back a short 20-25 minute drive from RVA a really kind host family.

All thumbs up!!! As stated by our 9 year old visitor! We absolutely enjoyed ourselves at Amy's campsites! We were so please with everything. The camp site we chose was pleasantly clean and quiet. The fire pit had 3 log benches that were super cute and Amy was very inviting! The dock was perfect for soaking up the sun and then jumping off of to cool down! This girl's weekend was a huge success!!! We even did a paint night!!! Such an amazing place to stay and unwind!
