Elmwood Acres is in Roseland, Virginia and sits among hundreds of acres of neighboring pastures and orchards. The property is home to two newly converted school buses ("Skoolies") which are designed for memorable family camping ("Glamping") experiences. The buses share incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and jaw-dropping sunsets. Between the buses is a shared kids playhouse with "digital" and "analog" toys for hours of enjoyment when nature has worn you out for the day. Elmwood Acres and the Skoolies are right across the street from Seaman's Orchard in Roseland Virginia. You are smack dab in the middle of hundreds of acres of orchards (open for Strawberry and Blueberry picking in the Spring/Early Summer) and pastures (yes, plenty of cows in site). There are another 7(!!) orchards within a 15 minute drive. At least 8 wineries/breweries within 15 minutes (Lovingston Winery, Mountain Cove Winery, Devils Backbone Brewery, Blue Mountain Barrell House, Outback Brew House, Blue Toad Hard Cidery, Rebec Vineyards, Lazy Day Winery). Lots of hiking nearby too: Appalachian Trail, Crabtree Falls, Fortunes Cove, Piney Ridge, etc.

BLUE BIRD
Anniversary Glamping Getaway
10 out of 10 for glamping. The Skoolie grounds and the bus were fantastic and dog friendly. The the kitchen is fully stocked and the stove is full sized. Definitely recommend bringing in lots of extra water for drinking and washing dishes if u plan on using the shower, as we ran out a bit early before our stay ended. The bed was super comfortable, lots of extra blankets and the view from the bed is perfect. Close to some great trails, and Bryant's cidery is close by. 15 minutes to DB and Wintergreen. Great anniversary getaway spot, and I plan to book again!

Not private but great views
The skoolie itself is great! Our kids loved it and everyone slept great. However the field was not mowed and we really had nowhere to walk/explore except right in front of the skoolie (it didn’t have a big open field like the pictures show). Aside from being restricted to a very small area, there were other renters in the other skoolie and a neighboring air bnb that must sleep 20. The guests were not being rambunctious or loud but we could hear them very clearly and the skoolie did not feel remote at all if that’s what you’re looking for. Overall the experience was cool and would be good if you rented all 3 spaces for a family function.

Gorgeous view from Skoolie!
The Skoolie Glamping experience was really fun. Skoolie was so cute-- the interior had sleek, modern furnishings (very Ikea)-- and had lots of conveniences. The kids loved the playhouse (and the retro video games, though sadly handheld Tetris was out of batteries, though we survived!) The interior of Skoolie was comfortable and cool (we were there in summer) and the view was spectacular. We were passing through, so we did not take advantage of many of the amenities (the fire pit, the local hiking trails, the wineries and breweries)-- but it looked as if there were tons of fun things to do.

Family camping in the blue skoolie
We had a fantastic long weekend stay in the blue skoolie. Everything was immaculate upon arrival. Kyle was very attentive to our needs too. It had everything you needed, you only have to pay k clothes & food. There were great little touches like s’mores & blue tooth speakers. My boys absolutely loved the gaming shed.

Not quite up to scratch
Kyle is really great, and the site is really beautiful and in a fantastic location but I just can’t recommend the blue skoolie. It is essentially an oven all day long on hot days so it’s unusable indoors, but then the awning is very unstable and blows off a lot so when outdoors becomes hot there’s no where to escape to. Additionally there are no curtains anywhere but the main bedroom, this makes the bunk beds less comfortable for sleeping and I’m sure if there were blinds on all the windows that would help with the heat issue. On top of this there was a 4 burner stove but only one pan, Kyle did kindly fetch one for us from his nearby AirBnB but this plus a couple of other lacking items just made it feel a bit under thought. Lastly, when we woke up there were a lot of mice droppings in the cupboard and they had chewed through my unopened chips. I appreciate it’s the outdoors but it was just a little unpleasant for the price. The second skoolie, the green one, seemed to have a very robust AC system and was newer, so I’m confident you could stay there and have a lovely time given Kyle’s winning hospitality.
