Learn more about this land: Nestled between Virginia Tech University (Blacksburg, VA) and Bristol Motor Speedway is a historical family farm 15 minutes from route 81. New River Trail State Park is 3.5 miles from the family farm, so bring the kayaks and canoes and enjoy the New River and the surrounding area of Southwest Virginia! As you turn off of the county road (607) you will find yourself at the classic red farm gate of Periwinkle Branch Family Farm. This Southwest Virginia farm was once an iron mining farm. During your private stay, you will find old historical farming equipment hidden amongst the landscape and even old mining buildings ("rock huts" now toppled over but once was part of the operation...see if you can find them!) The neighbors and family have between 30-50 Black Angus cows that you will see grazing the 30 acres of rolling pasture. You may camp wherever you like! I recommend on the hill behind the 100-year-old farmhouse, right before the 30 acres of wooded hiking, or by the spring house. You will see turkeys, deer, and other amazing creatures as you walk the pasture and woods. Tent camp with cows

We camped with our roof top tent it was great. We woke up in the morning to a herd of black cows eating the grass around us. The property was very quiet and we had a great view of the night sky. If your looking for a little twist on camping this was it we got a kick out of the cows

This camp was awesome! Instructions make it easy to find, we arrived in the dark and were still able to easily find a good spot. A little windy at night but amazing sunrise views, and THE COWS! Your morning here will be unforgettable. Thanks for an awesome stay, we hope to be back!

Periwinkle Branch Family Farm

Eventful for us, YOU will love it.

I don't recommend you bring a vehicle over 25 ft or so here in the muddy season. We arrived around 7 pm and our truck and camper ended up sliding backwards into some branches/a dead tree, banged up our camper a bit. We were stuck with our camper at a major angle for the night, fortunately the neighboring farmer, who owns the cows you pasture with at this site, helped us out. Very private spot, great for pet owners!!!! The farmer said you CAN drive on the loop (which we attempted up) but the ruts were far too deep for our very low camper, which is why we were forced to back up, and then slid. We came from upstate and had no idea they had two inches of rain here just a day or two ago. Also, the cows will try to eat any wires you have around the frame of your vehicle, SO WATCH for that. They were lacking and chewing the salt off the vehicle and chewed up a wire coating. My frame looks like it was just sanded too, we came out to them scraping the paint off of it!

Gorgeous Property

It was very primitive and absolutely beautiful. Loved the sunset, stars, and friendly cows. We only had a sedan but we recommend a four wheeler or truck to explore the property with!
