Worst Host Ever?
I think this is the first review I've ever written for anything, because this experience was just so bad. We are not from the area, and were not aware that a major storm had caused serious flooding in Vermont a few weeks before our stay. The host let us know less than 24 hours before we arrived that the sight was destroyed due to flooding that happened a few weeks prior. She told us that the bath house however, was still operational and so the site was functional but damaged pretty badly. Once we arrived, we noticed the site was pretty trashed and the main bridge to get there was destroyed, so we had to drive down the road and take an alternate path they made to accomodate. The bath house was barely functional and was not cleaned at all or stocked with any toilet paper, etc. The entire site reeked of a foul odor of what I can only assume was poop and sewage. Now, I understand that it isn't the host's fault there was a natural diaster at their site. But when we got there, we weren't sure how to get to the alternate path and the host would not respond to any messages or calls. We eventually figured it out, and went to register our tent site, but the host wasn't there, never returned and never got back to us. That along with the extremely short notice of the damage when there was ample time to let us know was extremely unprofessional and felt neglectful of guests. We made the most of it, but the host could not have been worse. I would never recommend because of her alone.

Small family - Wedding trip
We stayed at Onion River for affordable accommodations during a wedding. The showers were convenient with hot water and we had a nice spot next to the creek. Our side of the creek only had two camp sites and our neighbors were great. It’s not remote secluded and it’s also not KOA bustling - for us it was a nice middle ground. Firewood was easy to purchase, and we had a great time with the personal fire ring. With Verizon we had plenty of service at our site. To speak to some of the reviews I saw before we booked: we had no problems as tent campers getting in and out. And for us, the nights were super quiet after 11pm - not a peep. I think if there are reviews that this campground is loud that may have been a one-off… we could definitely fall asleep to the sound of the creek :)

We had the best time. It was super quiet and not too crowded (granted we were there mid-week) and was just what we were looking for in a campsite. Bathrooms and showers were super clean. The trails on the property were wonderfully maintained. We will be back!

Onion River Campground
The site was nice and clean and camping by the river was wonderful. My only issue is feeling scammed for extra money. There are no options to select a second vehicle and I message the host before hand about it and they never responded back and approved the booking. On the description it even says maximum 2 vehicles. We do not mind at all paying whatever needs to be paid but make a note of it somewhere in your description and details so that people are aware.
