Wild 'n Free at Blue Valley
adventurous, rugged, beautiful
Really kind and accommodating people! We really liked where we stayed next to the river. Wendy and Kelly are super nice and had a lot of ideas about what we could do in the area in regards to trails and drives. The ghost town piece on their land is really cool :) The only thing I might caution to folks is to make sure that if you are tent camping, you do not bring a tent that has any mesh. We bought a new tent that had one side of mesh for breathability, but with a rainfly that went to the ground. However, the wind was really strong and sand got in under the fly and covered our things with lots of sand on a daily basis. So, just make sure you have the right tent gear if you are camping in the sand.

Okay if you need it.
Not very friendly or welcoming. Signage not great. Asked us in our 2wd vebicle to stay in the 4wd only area. Water is non-potable. Bathrooms were rough, old, poorly upkept, portapoties, some without locking doors. Very bare-bones. Host was not happy that we came after 7pm, but didnt see any other way to do late check -in.

Buyer Beware
I rarely write a negative review because I know people have varying degrees of expectations when they travel. We are pretty easy going - especially when it comes to camping and an inexpensive camp spot. However, I’m writing this because I would want to know if I were booking a spot here. This spot is more of a glorified open field on a hot dry creek bed. The “river” is more of a ravine with contaminated water. The “sites” are sandy dirt roads that may have a random pile of rocks for a fire pit. We saw another group pull in and then leave, just like we did. Maybe other sites on the property were somehow magically better? But the five spots around us were so disappointing we forfeited our money and hightailed it out of there.

get there early!
if you’re able to, get there before 7:30pm. We had a lot of driving to do and weren’t able to get there beforehand, but at least the site was very easy to find and there was a toilet right there.

Wild 'n Free at Blue Valley
Wendy and Kelly were wonderful! The spot was clean and private, and an easy walk to the outhouse. However, the campsite drive is very sandy so 4 wheel drive is recommended. We did get our vehicle stuck once and Kelly was very quick to respond to our message and get us out! They are great people with a good site off the grid and close to Capitol Reef!

Wild 'n Free at Blue Valley
Despite high winds our first night, we had a lovely time here! Our host was super thoughtful and helped to direct us to the most protected site once we arrived. We loved our river view and our late night cow visitors! Aside from the proximity to Capitol Reef, we also loved exploring the rest of the property, including the historic site of Giles. Only downside was that there weren't picnic tables at the sites, but we made do. Overall great experience!
