The vibe at Uinta Basecamp
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Less than one hour from Salt Lake City and only 25 minutes from the world class ski resort town of Park City Utah sits the quiet Uinta Basecamp. Situated along a creek just off the Mirror Lake Scenic byway, the official gateway into the Uinta mountains (the highest range in the contiguous United States running east to west). Jill the host, greeted us instantly upon arrival and pointed out the hand-built Yurt's amenities and instructions. There were several trees and privacy fences to give the property a secluded feel, even though it was in a quiet dirt road neighborhood. The structure had only seen a few other visitors before us and looked brand new. There is room for 4 guests and even 2 cars but it was just the 2 of us with plenty of room to relax. The electricity was all solar, running water was from a 5 gallon jug and the pit toilet was very clean and convenient and even had a heater installed. A 3 burner gas stove and cast iron cook ware made this even better for preparing meals. Along with the mini-style fridge and off the grid heater, we were very self-sufficient.
The Samak Smokehouse is the closest business around a mere 5 minutes down the road and open year round for groceries, lunch and camping amenities. A couple hundred yards down the road is a natural spring for gathering ice cold water for your adventures and another hundred yards down from there we found a local neighbor that offered onsite fresh eggs for $3 a dozen. Within 10 minutes of driving along the Provo River we had come to the end of the plowed road and had to park at the trailhead of Winter travel. From here the options are snow shoeing, cross country skiing, fat biking and snowmobiling until the Summer months. In the Summer you can take the hiway 150 all the way into Wyoming with over 600 lakes in all, the Uintas are an outdoorsman's dream.
Excellent place to stay. We had a flat tire coming in and Nate helped us with that. The yurt was really comfortable felt like a mini cabin very nice wood and plenty of room to cook. Nice bed. Highly recommend 5 Star
The yurt and property was amazing! Jill was very helpful and welcoming. The amenities in the yurt were easy to use, the yurt itself was super cozy and quiet, and I loved that you could see the stars from the window at the top of the roof. We were only there for one night but absolutely would return and recommend to friends. Easy to get to the property and easy access to Park City. Thank you, Jill!
Jill and Nate's place is awesome! The yurt is beautifully built - care and attention has been applied to all the details. We only stayed one night to rest as we were travelling over to Colorado, but we wished we could have stayed longer.
The yurt is very comfortable, clean, tidy and has everything you need for a long or short stay. We also loved the shower and the pit toilet was well kept and very pleasant to use.
We will hopefully come and stay again!
This is one of the highlights of our journey out west. This yurt far surpassed my expectations...it contained everything we needed and more. She even had fig flavored balsamic vinegar ...jill and Nate could not have been nicer learned that Nate built this along with a portable toilet and an outdoor shower, which was fabulous. There was hot water for four showers and it is solar powered. There is a grill, fire pit with plenty of wood and picnic tables. The Murphy bed is so comfy as was gh ed futon. The location is very cool and private..will definitely be coming back.
