We are a non-profit horse rescue situated on one acre. We are located right off of the old main highway and have two neighbors within eyesight from the house. This site is very convenient for quick stays since it is so CLOSE TO THE HIGHWAY this makes it convenient but may not be appropriate for very light sleepers. The camping area is simple, with wild grass and a deep fir
The camping area is simple, with wild grass and a deep fire pit, bordered by the river on one side and the horse pasture on the other. You can see and hear the river easily April-July. The river is seasonal and does dry up in mid July-August. Hose water and a grill are available for your use but are located near the house and barn rather than at the site. If you want a ranch-style camping experience with lots of interaction with your hosts and opportunity for adventure then you have chosen the right camping location! You are welcome to join in the daily choring activities or choose to be taken on a scenic trail ride or thrilling guided gallop on beautiful and well-trained rescue horses.
PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is located in our house and has a flushable toilet and shower with hot water. Bathroom hours are 8am-9pm. Parking is in our driveway. You must walk a few hundred feet to get to the campsite. You cannot pull straight up to the campsite (but you can get close). We look forward to having you camp with us!

Jessie and Shaun were fantastic hosts! Upon arrival, they helped us to our campsite and had mugs of coffee and hot apple cider waiting for us (we were camping in the cold!) They were kind and courteous to us the entire time and we even arranged a guided horseback ride with them! I would definitely recommend!
Awesome spot right along a creek! Beautiful views of the mountains!

Thanks so much for spending the night with us Rob!
Staying at Second Chance Ranch was a unique experience. We enjoyed being around all their well treated rescue animals :)
It offers river side camping, which hearing every day was lovely. It was not as secluded as expected, though - it is right on a highway. The campsite is only accessible by walking down to from the highway, which made things more challenging than expected. Two of the neighbors on the other side of the river came to say hello, too, which we enjoyed - but they thought we were homeless haha.
It had been raining a lot before we got there and the ground was pretty wet being right by the river, so we slept in my Jeep (which was already set up to sleep in). Something to keep in mind, depending on when you may be staying there.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay but met some challenges along the way.

We're so sorry to hear that your stay was less than perfect! April and May are VERY rainy and wet times of year in Mountain Green. This year has been worse than most. Unfortunately with the sites being so close to the river, things can get rather damp! We are glad you managed to stay dry in your vehicles!
Jessie our host was great! Camping was a lot of fun. Loved visiting the horses and pigs, quiet and quaint. Exactly what we were looking for

It was very nice to have you two Estefan!
We enjoyed our time at Second Chance Ranch. My kids got to brush horses and interact with bunnies, chickens, pigs and dogs. FYI - parking is in their driveway and the bathroom you can use is in their house. Camping is down by a creek so you don’t park near where you camp. If you are looking to interact with your hosts and some animals then this is a great choice.

Thanks Elle! You and your kids were a delight to have!
There was an issues with Hipcamp, but Jessie was more than great working around it. Very accommodating and went beyond on hosting.

Thanks Raychel! I am glad you two were still able to enjoy your stay despite the surprises! I hope you enjoyed the farm fresh eggs :)
The hosts were very friendly. I loved this little place and would go there again! All the animals and hospitality made the stay amazing:)
Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to stay as the host was undergoing some unforeseen changes last minute.
Hopefully we'll get a *second* chance some time in the near future!
Great hosts, nice location. As noted by a previous reviewer the ranch is located right on the main road through town and there is a fair amount of traffic driving past. That being said, the site was screened from the road and was reasonably private. Having access to the shower and bathroom was a great bonus. The site I was in abutted the corral and the horses were pleasant companions. Shared some veggies with them and the bunnies that wandered through my camp in the morning. Overall positive experience and I would stay again while passing through.

Thanks for staying with us Jason! We loved having you :)
