Description

Desolation Gray Canyon—and the Green River that splits it 10,000 feet below—is heaven for the casual rafter and lover of multi-day float trips. The rapids are easy and allow every member on board to enjoy the beautiful rugged scenery, varied wildlife, and decent hiking spots. You can access the canyons (with a permit) via the primitive boat ramp at Sand Wash Ranger Station, where eight screen cabins are located. Because the area is relatively remote, many groups choose to stay the night in the cabins before embarking on the river. But, be prepared for the mosquitos at Sand Wash—the cabins have screens for a reason.
