The Gypsy Ranch is the ultimate camping spot for a peaceful riverside hang or a group weekend of outdoor sports and river floating. Cory, the host, is truly one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and is determined to make sure that you have the best time possible. He's still working to clean up the property from previous owners, so expect to see some little junk piles here and there, or dirt mounds from the BMX track under construction. That said, there are plenty of beautiful spots to put up your tent, and a long, gorgeous stretch of river to explore or float down. There is even a waterfall and swimming hole deep enough to safely use the jump rock. Cory has lots of big plans for the site including completing a zipline, expanding the river beach and clearing out more camp sites. In the meantime you'll be plenty entertained by the volleyball net, kickball court, horseshoe pit, barbecue, fire pit, and the host's very friendly dog, Mendo. I suspect that this site will just get more and more awesome over time. I highly recommend the Gypsy Ranch for some good old fashioned NorCal fun.
Naked Falls is a swimming and hiking dream! The property has tons of dispersed camping sites along the Washougal River and gorgeous hiking along old lumber roads from the previous owners. River access includes everything from picnic friendly beaches on swimming holes to cliff jumping into the deep end of the waterfall for the adventurers in your crew. Steve (the host) grew up swimming here and is an amazing resource for all of the ins and outs and history of the property, not to mention a super nice guy. Bring your pooch and your swimsuit and get ready for a lovely stay!
I solo camped here when I got a few days off work last minute. The ranger helped me pick a site that was more private where I was able to set up my hammock and camp and then spend my days exploring the Catskills. Pro-tip: skip the forums and ask the locals for their favorite swimming holes, but keep quiet about them so they stay pristine! Also, don't leave without having breakfast at Phoenicia Diner. You won't regret it!
