Returning after two months, Shelterwood was just as amazing as we remembered and just as pristine (including the port-a-potty!). Our group of 10 plus a puppy really loved our time here. We had everything we needed for campfire s’mores, evenings under the stars, grilling burgers and hotdogs, and making camp breakfasts. We loved the scenic drive in and the adventurous off-roading route to camp. This campsite is super private and yet has everything you need (besides a shower). As usual, David & Elise were so accommodating and kind to all of us. I had the best birthday weekend thanks to this awesome campsite. The location is also excellent for those interested in tubing down the Russian River which is only a 20 minute drive away.
I do recommend bringing twin or double air mattresses (which fit perfectly in the tents) for extra guests rather than using the cots for better comfort and a folding table if you have lots of people so there’s room to prep and serve food. Also make sure you hide any trash or food in the tents or the port-a-potty if you ever leave camp in case you have unexpected guests. I also recommend stopping by the Safeway in downtown Healdsburg to get any last minute supplies and ice.
We had a wonderful stay at Maple Landing. Love the story behind the property and the hard work put into making this campsite. It is super comfortable and the place you want to be for those who want a glamping experience, but there is plenty to explore and enjoy for those who want to be closer to nature. This was perfect for our group of six. The grill was great for making some burgers and the fire pit was awesome for hot dogs, biscuits and s’mores! The stars are gorgeous between the ring of trees surrounding the site and it is so peaceful and quiet. Super private and away from the downtown area. No worries about any wild animals and very few bugs especially at night.
Be ready to be away from the city as you will have zero cell service, no electricity except the lightbulb in your tent, and you will need to take a dirt road along a hillside to get to the site, but that’s the great part of the camping experience. I’d recommend a 4WD vehicle for easier access but any car would work. Town is only 15 minutes away if you need supplies as well. The hosts are very nice, super communicative and provide lots of good information.
If you have more than 7 people I’d recommend bringing air mattresses or something else for your extra guests because the cots are not very comfortable. The beds are super nice and comfortable.
