We stayed at "Sam n' Alex", the private room that is attached to the back of the property and really enjoyed our 3 day stay. Some of our favorite amenities included being surrounded by redwood trees, hot tub jets, floaties in the pool, and Gordon's hospitality that included extra cup of coffee he had brewing the last day. Being within 20min of amazing hiking (ex. Big Basin) and 5min from the cute little town of Boulder Creek (with a great organic store Wild Roots) were some added bonuses. All in all, would highly recommend and stay again.
The olive grove was a great place to stop on the way to Lassen. It was a relaxing atmosphere and Michael was a great host. Even though we arrived late, Michael was able to help direct us how to check in. When the water pressure was a little low, Michael came over and quickly remedied the situation. One thing to note is that some of the camp sites are near a chicken coop, with some roosters who are quite boisterous in the early morning.
Our stay at Bar SZ ranch was above and beyond expectations for New Years weekend. Tim and Michelle and their family were generous with their ranch, their own stories and making sure we were super comfortable and enjoying all the beautiful place had to offer. Can’t recommend enough. Coming back for sure!
It was a well kept campsite and far enough spaced out to not see the other campsites. We were in site 1. Appreciated the amenities: our stuff was delivered so we didn't have to carry up a short hill. Shower and toilet. And even firewood and a fireplace provided. My one complaint is that insurrections on hipcamp said we can purify water there but once we got there camp host Daryl recommend highly against it. Water is from creek at low elevation so even with purified had a bit of a funk.
so we had to drive back into town which wasted another hr which could have been prevented with clearer instructions. Otherwise pleasant quiet stay close to SF, which was hard to beat.
We stayed at the campground which was pretty nice spread out area, about 500 feet behind that farmhouse on a dirt road. the camp sites are nice and flat, mostly grass and dirt. it was pretty amazing to hear the ocean crashing at night. met one of the hosts who was very nice, found out they do yoga/massage sessions during the day if you want to book. one thing to know is that because it's so close to the ocean, expect the ground/air to be very WET, which means starting a fire can be challenging without a starter kit. happy camping!
