Great location less than 2hrs from the northern Chicago suburbs. Quiet, private, and Darryl the host, was very welcoming. We had actually booked another campground but due to weather, we headed north to avoid the weather. Darryl responded quickly and we were able to book Purplehaze less than 24hrs before we arrived.
There are 2 campgrounds to choose from but due to the wet conditions we stayed at the 1st spot (fallen tower) closer to the road. The scenery was beautiful and heavily wooded. Campground had a wonderful fire pit made of stones and a fire grate for cooking. There were also large stumps to use for seating and a picnic table. A newly built privy was clean and well stocked with toilet paper and essentials. Plenty of room and flat ground to setup a tent or tarp. Overall we couldn't have asked for more on such short notice. Next time we plan to stay at the second campsite which is further into the woods atop a steep hill. Overall an awesome experience for our first Hipcamp stay.
