Quincy was a great and friendly host! This was a brand new site when we stayed on it. You can tell he put in a lot of work to prep the land and set up stations for trash and porta-potties every couple hundred feet. The top of Sky Hill has great views of Clear Lake and is MUCH cooler than the base of the lake which was refreshing for summer (temps were in the upper 90's near the base of the hill and low 80's at the top w/ wind).
We were situated at the top of the ridge so there was a lot of wind that came in waves but our shade structure and tarp made a good wind shield. This kept us cool during the day and night.
This was a great place to watch the full moon rise over the lake and stargaze at night!
Make sure to bring water with you! Wide brim hats are great too and high top boots or sneakers are a good idea to keep the grass from poking you.
Unfortunately, there were some concerns about mercury contamination in Clear Lake so we avoided going in the water.
Great way to get away and feel socially distanced, safe, and most importantly, rejuvenated. I loved falling asleep to the frogs and crickets each night. All the people we came across were friendly and welcoming.
Make sure you hike up to the reservoir and take a dip!
Windy Hollow Farms is a gem on the north coast! Well-maintained space where everything you need is thought out. Coffee in the kitchen with a hand crank grinder, outdoor shower with hot water, wood-burning stove in the cabin, electrical outlets, composting toilet, and a pond with frogs right outside the window to lul you to sleep. Be sure to check out B Bryan Preserve next door and hang out with some Giraffe!
Great place, very underrated. Awesome views and just what I was looking for while exploring the eastern Sierra this winter and looking for something in nature but with enough shelter from freezing weather. Would 100% come back here.
Great place to spend a weekend and explore the surrounding area. Gordon is a very communicative host and answered all our questions.
Our small group booked two sites next to each other. We spent most of our days exploring the local swimming holes and hiking around. Evenings we spent at camp cooking over the fire and enjoying the stars.
The other guests were friendly and it felt very much like an oasis. The Christmas tree farm is really conducive for hammocks!
The Big Mesa Farm is a gem! Beautiful glamping tents, wonderful wonderful property with so many nooks to explore from the outdoor kitchen to the llama pen, to the two campfires set up. I can't wait to visit again. Ashley is amazing and a wonderful host. This was my favorite Hipcamp expereince!
Probably the closest place you can camp to Monument Valley! awesome hosts, with real stories of the navajo people – their struggle, their laughter, their triumphs, and their amazing resilience. I hope to return here to help out more…
