Dos Rios Camping
in Dos Rios, TexasSkip this if you are a tent camper
This is an RV park with 8 tent sites. The access to river is really small and limited, no shade by the water. One bath house for 40+ sites. The river looks like every other river in Texas. Nothing special here.
I tried to rent a canoe in advance, but the host didn't reply. When we saw him, he was not just rude, but mean. The manager offered me a canoe for FIFTY DOLLARS (more than the cost of our three day trip!) And he didn't even have canoe paddles. He tried to convince me for $50 to use kayak paddles with a canoe. Really? I'm a professional paddler. Believe it or not, the two paddles are designed very differently and don't work interchangably! He kept pushing, kind of hard, for the money from us, even though we declined because of lack of matching equipment. He was actively angry with us for bothering him and turning down the mis-matched equipment.
The manager drives his bulldozer around the property. Not a pickup truck. A full size bulldozer. It's loud. He drove around from 7a to 6p all 3 days I was there. He was also chopping down a tree without care. Loud chainsaws I could hear all over the property. My friend and I were walking and he literally almost dropped a large branch on us because he didn't pause his landscaping for us to walk by.
You can do much, much better for $30 per night. Skip this. Hit a state park or a different hipcamp. I'm sure this place is acceptable for RV campers.
