Wow! What an experience, where do I begin? The hike up the mountain was much more strenuous than I was expecting. Though it was described as rugged yet moderate, it took me at least an hour and a half stopping every couple hundred feet to catch my breath. Definitely wear hiking shoes and pack light (think twice about how badly you want that case of beer).
The cabin was all about those views! Completely breathtaking. Keep in mind there is no electricity, so bring games and books to keep yourself entertained. This cabin is truly off the grid.
We were pleasantly surprised by the stocked kitchen. Breakfast was included and lots of other things to cook with for lunch and dinner. Blake was also a great host!
99 Bottles Winery was SUCH an awesome campsite. We unfortunately didn't arrive until close to sunset and left early in the morning, so we didn't get to explore the grounds. The campsite was well kept, the restrooms were clean, and the winery itself was absolutely beautiful. My only regret is that we didn't get to explore more. I would absolutely stay here again and would send friends driving through Iowa to this winery.
Isa's ranch is the perfect campsite for a trip to the Black Hills. Just 35 minutes from Mount Rushmore and 12 minutes from downtown Custer, the location is central to many of the main attractions in the area.
One of our favorite discoveries was Custer Beacon, a new warehouse space with live music, pool, a great bar and very friendly people. This was recommended to us by our host Isa and a great spot to grab a beer after a day of hiking in the Black Hills.
We were the only guests tent camping, and there were a few other visitors in the house and in the cabin. It felt very private, secluded and clean. The bathroom is connected to the garage and there is the option to shower in a stall with a solar water bag. The complimentary coffee in the morning was a nice touch! Would highly recommend Isa's campsite to any travelers coming through South Dakota.
Two Medicine Campground was such a pleasant surprise for our trip to Glacier National Park. We were relying on a site what was first come, first served, and we had heard that Many Glacier and Rising Sun are the best because of their proximity to some of the most famous attractions in the park. By the time we arrived to both campgrounds, they were completely full. We made it to Two Medicine around 12PM and found the PERFECT site just one minute from the lake. The views of the mountains from the site were incredible. We ended up spending our whole trip exploring the Two Medicine area - including hikes around the lake, renting a motor boat (kayaks and canoes also available) and taking a boat tour. Highly recommend Two Medicine campground.
