Shelly was an amazing hostess who gave amazing directions. The road there may be rough, but it’s exceedingly worth it. The landscape was breathtaking and even though we came during a rainstorm, we still had phenomenal views of the surrounding mountains and experienced an incredible sunrise. The yurt was beyond comfortable while still feeling like we were roughing it in the best possible way. The little town of Madrid provided all the provisions we needed – stop there for anything you need before you head up into the mountains. You won’t want to leave once you get there.
Our cabin was absolutely amazing. We brought our two dogs along on our Route 66 road trip and they both loved being ranch dogs for a couple of days. It was wonderful being away from the hustle and bustle of the city and waking up to horses lazily munching just beyond the fence behind our little homestead. Come here if you’re craving big sky and wide-open spaces.
Our hosts were hands-off but made it clear they were available if we needed them. The farm was idyllic and even though there were other campers and an event happening near the farmhouse, my husband and I felt secluded enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was when it started raining right as we were about to get a fire going, but that’s hardly our hosts’ fault! Great campsite!
