After a week of camping across the country, it was a true gift to spend our final evening camping at Oak Mountain Hideaway. Not only are the hosts incredibly accommodating, but the setting is breathtaking, and not to be missed. There are a couple campsite options and a cabin on premises, but none of them are in view of one another, so it is very private. We could have stayed and chatted with Anna Marie and Ed all evening, but after they showed us the amenities and our spot, we set up camp. We were at site #1, and the little outbuilding is a great feature. There's a compost toilet inside, and the building is surrounded by a nice deck that overlooks the property. There was a well-established firepit, and the hosts left us lots of firewood. The site was perfect and private. We took a walk at dusk and heard a lot of wildlife. The amenities are also fabulous — campers have access to a toilet, a gravity shower, and a dishwashing station. They seriously thought of everything, and maintain the place beautifully. We can't wait to go back, and dream of renting out all the sites and the cabin and having the run of the land! Unfortunately we had insane thunderstorms and ended up having to pack up early in the morning during a dry spell, but Anna Marie heard us, woke up, and opened the gate for us to leave in our Uhaul. Highly recommend this spot & these hosts!
Gary is a hell of a guy and his dogs are too! We had a great night at Tippecanoe Riverside, it was extremely private so we felt comfortable listening to music until late and having a big fire in the fire pit. Gary was very generous — he supplied tons of firewood for us to use. The mosquitos are a thing, so make sure you bring bug spray ... but we didn't have much of a problem after we started the fire. Lots of wildlife sounds in the night, and total seclusion. We were in the backup site, which Gary is developing, so the site itself was a little rustic, but we had a seriously good time there.
Justin Trails Resort is in an absolutely stunning setting. There are gorgeous walking trails all over the property. The site itself had everything we needed: a wonderful fire pit with stumps to sit on, a picnic table, and an ideal place for our tent. We were also tucked back in a relatively private setting. However, we didn't fully understand that the resort is more a of a multi-purpose recreational area — there were guests playing disc golf and coming in for various services. Expect that you will interact with other folks in your stay here. We kept to ourselves mostly and absolutely loved our site and appreciated the amenities more than anything. Hot showers after days of camping was a serious treat!
Our stay with Jeff & Nancy was way too short. Jeff showed us around when we got there - we met all the animals (pigs were a personal fave) and then took a sunset walk down the creek. Then we walked through the creek barefoot, set up camp on the bank, and made a fire. We had a great night, but the next morning was truly the best - we collected fresh eggs and had an amazing breakfast while we watched the farm at work. Wonderful hosts and a beautiful setting.
Linda was very welcoming - we came in late with a uhaul and set up camp by a horse pasture. Saw multiple shooting stars - gorgeous night sky with zero light pollution - and played with her friendly dog. We woke to a chorus of bugs, birds, and a rooster. The sunrise was beautiful. Perfect way to start the day.
