Intro: Just a couple middle-aged adults looking for some peace and quiet away from the hectic inner city office 9-5. You might catch us reading our books, watching the fire, or staring at the stars. Or trying some interesting "gourmet cooking" in the wild
It all started as a holiday trip to the State Park. We had been planning it for 3 weeks. We were all packed up and ready to go. And then we got thinking about all the people packed in together, and the noise of other campers, and the lack of privacy, and the small space we would be expected to squeeze into, and the required “quiet hours”, and the lights that would interfere with good star-gazing, and ........
and we looked at each other and wondered why we were going there. It was mutually decided that it would Not be the camping experience we are looking for, so we canceled that reservation and contacted Logan & Geer to see if they would mind a couple of last-minute guests. Which they didn’t mind at all.
So we got the peace & quiet we wanted after all, with all the space to call our own, a beautiful dark sky full of stars, that was eventually out-shown by an equally beautiful moon, and it was the perfect outdoor get-away that we wanted for Christmas.
This was our second visit and our stay was just as nice. Glad the Farm survived the flooding. Though we could see where the tide line had been, Mother Nature comes back with new growth. If you are coming to visit LowGeer for the first time, I would suggest you come prepared to be tempted with farm goodies. We had fresh eggs on our first visit. And this time there was a selection of fresh baked mini-loaves, jam and oatmeal blends. Always the little things that makes the trip worth driving from our city. Thanks.
A very last minute decision for a camping get-away turned into a perfect find for future visits. Booked my trip Wednesday night for Friday night, they said "sure come on over". A little over an hour out of San Antonio, and I was in another world - a quiet, more peaceful, world than the daily 9-5. And talk about perks. Did you say a "real" bathroom? That and the picnic table and the firepit w/chairs and the storage box thoughtfully stocked with grilling utensils and the soft wood chip tent space and ...... This is not really roughin' it. But it is the great outdoors, complete with leisurely hikes through the trees, sky full of stars, and crickets & frogs to sing you to sleep. Laura & Clark are very friendly, and so are their dogs and 2 cute goats. Very good communication before I even arrived, gave good driving directions for the city girl who would be lost without her smartphone. When I arrived they gave me a quick tour of the place then let me have my quiet time. But whenever they saw me walking around by the house or passed me on the property, they would ask if I needed anything, and come on up to the house if you do. I would definitely recommend this Little Haven (I just hope it doesn't get so popular that it's full up next time I want to go)
We had a great time getting away from the big city. Set up camp on a full moon night in the orchard full of historical pecan trees. Moon was so bright we hardly needed a lantern. Splashing sounds of the river to put us to sleep. By day, there was lots of time to just sit by the river and relax. By night, a pretty good view of the moon and stars for telescope viewing - though I expect when the trees leaf out there will be more shade than sky. Logan was very patient with our late arrival, and Geer helped us out with a jumpstart for our vehicle on our last day. Thanks for all that ..... and the fresh eggs are awesome.
