We arrived at the cabin in the early afternoon after stopping at Zigzag Mountain Cafe for a late lunch (we highly recommend the eggs Benedict). Maria and her family were here to welcome us and show us around.
We settled down and went straight to Sandy Ridge for a quick mountain bike ride and did a little grocery shopping at Mount Hood Foods in Rhododendron on the way back to the cabin.
We did not get a chance to see the beautiful view of mount Hood as it was a perfect PNW misty day but we did catch a glimpse of it above the clouds for a minute, it was enough to add that little magic to our late afternoon drink on the deck.
Cell phone coverage is very limited, but there is wifi at the cabin.
And there’s a TV in the bedroom, for those who might be interested.
Ken and Janet welcomed us at the Tipi Village Retreat on a Friday afternoon.
We spent the night in the Calapooya Tipi which is perfectly located under a tall cedar tree, by the stream. All tipis have access to a centrally located bath house with two full bathrooms.
Ken and Janet’s attention to details is impressive: from the Pendleton blankets to the paths that are lit at night and the tiny library perched on a tree!
Did we mention that there is a hot tub?!
A gourmet breakfast is served a 9am. You won’t be hungry for a couple hours after such a feast!
Our stay at Panacea at the Canyon was nothing short of dreamy. It was a prefect occasion to get away from the Portland gloominess and spend some time in nature.
The tent was super comfortable and the gas fireplace was definitely a nice addition as nights were still pretty chilly in April.
Darren gave us a couple recommendations for dinner (The Depot in Terrebonne) and breakfast (One Street Down in Redmond) as we had not planned on cooking during our stay (but there’s a fully covered outdoor kitchen in the common areas by the main house).
Smith Rock State Park is only a stone’s throw away. Stop by Cornucopia on the way there to stock up on healthy snacks!
We’ll definitely go back to Panacea during the warmer days to make the most of the outdoor shower and the amazing lounging pool on top the the hill!
