We booked with Matt on Tuesday May 5th to stay for Friday the 8th through 10th. On Wednesday Matt told us he would let us in to the gate at noon on Friday. I wrote back that we were working on Friday and would be coming down after work so noon didn’t work. Matt told us to let him know when we were heading down so he could meet us. On Friday we messaged Matt through the app that we would be driving down and would be there in about an hour and a half. We waited at the gate for 30 minutes, drove back to cell service, texted, called and emailed Matt and waited another 30 minutes. We drove back to the gate and waited another 20 minutes. Between all of the driving and waiting it was now 7:30 PM. 4 hours after we initially contacted Matt to let him know we were on our way. Somebody else showed up to the gate and got through. I talked to them and they told me their family has had land beyond the gate for 60 years and they have never heard of a Matt Spaethe. I showed them the directions to the camp from the Hipcamp app and he told me the only thing a mile and a half up the road as per the directions was a torn down house and some trailers, not a camp. At 9pm Matt texted me saying because he didn’t hear from me on Thursday he thought I cancelled. I believe this is a scam camp site at the worst, or a terribly incapable host who has false pictures up at the best.
The McBride family is as lovely as their campsite. It was an absolute joy staying at their farm. The sites were clean and well maintained. Every request and and question was promptly responded to. I will be staying here again, I wish I never left.
