Highly recommended. SongDog East is more secluded than SongDog West, with the campsites spaced out further from each other. It is still the same set-up, with a table, trash, wooden shelter, firepit and two star-gazing chairs laid out for you. We stayed at site 1, and the slight elevation and incline of this site compared to the SongDog West meant we were in a prime position to watch a magnificent sunset from our camp chairs. However, there is an easily accessible hill next to the site if you need an even better vantage point (or stargazing spot). A final point, we went over Memorial Day weekend, and even though the whole site was full, it never felt crowded. Jim has set something special up here.
Highly recommended! Agree with the reviews here, pretty much the perfect camping site. Only a few sites, so not too busy, super dog friendly (I think everyone staying there had a dog with them) and hearing the coyotes at night was pretty special. Jim is an incredibly friendly and welcoming host. One bit of advice though, it seems the word is definitely out about SongDog, so it will start to book up fast.
This small campsite is a good staging base for the Lost Horse Mine hike. It can fill up quickly though, but normally has a few spots left even when places like Hidden Valley are full.
Book as far in advance as you can. We were in Pine Loop, which is tent only and generator free. All of the sites there are pretty good for what you need.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
