Intro: I work as a graphic designer in the mountains and deserts of southern New Mexico. I'm fairly new to camping, but have long loved the beauty and unique experiences that can be found in the outdoors.
This is an alright place to camp. There are some well-maintained sites on mown grass near the host's house. We opted to camp on a sandy spot next to the creek, which gave us a little more seclusion and privacy. The thing that had most intrigued me about this site was that it called itself a plant sanctuary, and it seemed at one point they may have offered nature walks and classes to learn about local history and ecology. It may be my fault for not asking our host about this more directly during our brief encounters, but no information was offered on these activities, which I was pretty sad about as it was one of the reasons I wanted to camp here.
The creek next to our camp was dry, but hiking a little ways down it away from town led to some cool little experiences, with water reappearing a short walk away from us. There were tons of beautiful flowers further down the creek, and we ran across a little rope swing that was fun.
This campsite isn't as remote as I was expecting it to be. You are right next to the town of Kingston (so close, that we were kept up at night by a neighbor in town who left their dogs out all night, unfortunately). There is an outhouse at the public campsite next door to the property...it can be a bit of a hike, and maybe isn't the most feasible at night. The coffee shop next door appeared to be closed the whole time we were there, so if you intend to rent a shower from them during your stay, I would recommend calling ahead of time to see if they will be open. There is a water spigot onsite that we were able to use. The water that came out of it was brown, we washed our dishes in it, but opted not to drink it (we brought a substantial amount of water with us). I guess we're just wimps like that. lol
I'd be interested in coming back to experience some of their classes and other activities if they are still on offer.
