I was excited to spend a night at John's Green Mountain Retreat and spent the time leading up to my trip really talking it up to my friends and family. They were extra jealous when I showed them the photos in the listing.
I've been in need of a getaway and even though my stay would be just one night, it was the key part of a week-long road trip up North.
After arriving in town early and buying some time at a local lunch spot, I showed up for my reservation at the exact earliest moment I could. I was looking forward to maximizing my stay.
Long story short, John accidentally overbooked and allowed the previous nights guest to stay another night. He offered me a place above his garage as well as a cash refund but I decided to just take the refund and head further West. I had to drive past the sunset but luckily found another location to spend the night, even though I felt like I lost a good bit of rest time.
I understand that accidents happen and John was apologetic and also gave me a refund but it certainly left a bad taste. I do hope to plan a trip back someday if I can.
Frank was an awesome host and the property is fantastic in every way. I especially appreciated the privacy and comfort and enjoyed simply spending my time relaxing.
I was lucky enough to visit while the snow was coming down and with the pellet stove turned up and a good book in hand, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
Frank was also gracious enough to give me a tour of the property. I only wish I could have been around when he was making maple syrup but it just wasn’t the right time of the year.
The only downside (and I use that term lightly) is that the shower is incredibly small. But you have to understand that this building was built in the 1790’s and my size closely resembles that of a Clydesdale. I don’t hold it against them, I just couldn’t find any other downside with this property.
They’ve also included the modern amenities of a mini fridge with a freezer and microwave which is a nice touch if you need those things. And I did take advantage of the breakfast items that Frank and Jenny set out for me.
I can’t wait until I’m able to visit again and I highly recommend this property to anyone that’s interested.
