My group and I had a wonderful time staying at David’s campsite! It was some members first time camping and being the host of the group I was tasked with making it a positive and wonderful experience that would leave everyone with an anticipation to go and camp out again! I could not have chosen a better site! It was neat and tidy, had a nice large fire pit, a HUGE sturdy wooden table which feels almost like a permanent structure(and we were so glad we had that!) and plenty of space to pitch the tent and lounge at camp. Nearby is a river stream, plus a local spring with the most amazing water I have tasted, and roughly 20mins from the small town of Phoenicia. Quiet and private yet not terribly far from civilization. There was more than enough space to pull our suv up the gravel path. David and his wife came over one day to check that we had what we needed. He was also kind enough to leave some firewood at the site for us, and was easy to contact throughout the booking process! The nights were a little chilly so we were very thankful for that extra firewood! I wish we could keep this spot a secret... we all agreed we would love to return to this campsite on our next trip! Thanks for the lovely space for our extremely memorable trip!
First off I had a difficult time finding the place! Very frustrating especially when driving through mountainous areas with little to no cell service except for a tiny area with some service every 20mins drive or so! I finally asked some neighbors and I was indeed at the right place but there were NO signs, except after driving deep into the woods, after a hundred feet or so was the chain gate with a sign saying private property. Zero response from the host even after several phone calls, an email, and a message through Hipcamp.
As for the property itself, it’s really just a dense forest area. Lots of trees and a ton of brush! The spots could certainly use at least a little clearing of the brush(not the trees), maybe some goats could accomplish brush clearing without heavy machinery.
The dirt road becomes less road and more dirt the further you drive, so keep in mind what kind of car you have(a Jeep or similar off road vehicle would be ideal for this)
A very primitive site. The first campsite area was littered, broken table and pieces of wood lying around, lots of littered pieces from what seems like target practice...
On the upside, it was completely private! I liked the private and primitive nature of it. Definitely needs a couple small but well marked signs so you know where you are/ where you’re going. The hosts directions were somewhat helpful.
I read on the listing that there was a stream on the property, and at the end of my campsite I could hear running water, so through the trees and down a steep slope I went until I found the stream. That was nice, although it was tough to get to on foot.
If I needed a campsite in the same area in the future, I would actually consider coming back here.
I enjoyed staying a night at Dustin and Lanni’s place.
Dustin was kind in providing some fresh water from their well, and also helping me to get a fire going in the fire pit at the campsite.
Extra, potable water was available as I needed.
They also have a very nice, new outhouse! I really appreciated it, and because it’s what I believe is a “compost toilet” I hope it will stay just as clean for times to come! I sure appreciated the clean outhouse, and the fact that it was actually large enough to turn around in, plenty of space if you had to change clothes, etc.
There were multiple trails to walk on the property, I was told, but during my short stay I sadly did not get a chance to check them out, instead I chose to rest and relax at the campsite. Hopefully they will expand to make more campsites in the future and that I’ll be able to stay here again when I’m in the area, and can check the trails out then! I liked the property. The directions were accurate and the place was easy to find. Overall a good experience, I would recommend!
Thanks for the camp spot, Dustin and Lanni! Take care.
P.s this was my first time using Hipcamp and so far, so good! Based off of this experience I wouldn’t hesitate to use Hipcamp again!
