With access to forest trails and views of the last exhale of the Rockies, proximity to town and a crew of kind, knowledgeable people present- the camp experience was hard to beat. I drew up a seat for the summer monsoons near the dining hall to van camp while the property was quiet, and spent some of my day time writing under that hall's communal roof in the open air.
(*those comforts include: showers, restrooms, tree houses and even a hot tub up there in the Juniper trees)
Currently- this camp is an incredible balance of amenity and raw possibility: the director posts for the land have just shifted to some people who have a lot of skill and outdoor knowledge to share! And I look forward to seeing what they build with their easy and responsive team. Thank you so very much for the solitude and creative space Tree House Camp! I look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
My evening at Green Table Farm was excellent. Although my stay there was brief, I was very impressed by the space and had the perfect quiet evening on their property. My view of the mountains, the well kept and flat grassy camp site, hugged in by their spring creek and it's wildflowers- it was a great time and I would certainly be back! Thank you Tyler and family.
'Dog Camp' at the Reynolds Family Ranch was an exceptional place to enjoy some solitude and this weekend's meteor shower while I decompressed from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The camp on this Scottish Highland cattle ranch is beautiful and secluded. The landscape is fantastic, as their property sits right on the meeting place of the low rock formations of The Black Hills and the plains that run out westward toward the Big Horns.
Their camp is very secluded- a mile up a soft dirt road through timber and the occasional Antelope. The sky is wide open and the sunset through the treeline was incredible.
Reynolds Family Ranch are grass fed beef purveyors! They sell at their local farmer's markets, and if you ask in advance, you can cook meat raised on that very ranch at your campsite during your stay. I am in the food and beverage industry and was so impressed with their practices and their ground beef. This was a great camp, that ended up with a deeper education into Wyoming grass fed cattle and was a wonderful Agro tourist experience!
Thank you Florence and Alf for the lovely evening, the kind conversation, sharing your land and your excellent meat. I will be back and be in touch! I absolutely recommend a night or two at DogCamp when passing through these parts!
My stay at 'Mini Alpaca Ranch' with Laurell was lovely. She communicated very well as I wound my way north from New Mexico with a day-of reservation, and responded to my booking request very quickly.
Her property is a great place to park an RV or similar contained vehicle and have access to the foothills and all their nature has to offer. Privacy of the camp itself is basic- the site is on a road in a country community and is gently fenced and gated in. Laurell set clear expectations with me about that from the moment I inquired about staying- her site is for vehicle camping, and when you are out of your vehicle you are visible to the neighbors and occasional passersby on her road. That said- I slept so comfortably with my roof open to the night stars and had no issues at all with road noise that evening.
Laurell and her family extended wonderful kindness upon my arrival, and I wish that I had a bit more time to get to know them. I would have loved to have gotten their advice on access to all the local landscape had to offer- but they were leaving for a trip for charity on an early flight and I respected that action very much. Know that it is worth researching how to access to the activities listed, as they are not on property- but you are staying at their doorstep. The rate is excellent for an area where summer bookings are handled months in advance- making it difficult for last minute travelers.
Thank you Laurell for giving me a wonderful evening' s rest and hospitality with such last minute notice!
I couldn't be happier that the path lead us to Greenleaf Campground.
The land parks itself so perfectly under the endless, incomparable stretch of sky that hovers across the canyon. And you have room for everything; no view or thought or breath or shooting star has walls here.
We pulled into Greenleaf, one SUV and one Harley Davidson, two wild minded wide eyed travelers who have seen a lot of miles and had seen a number more that day on our ride in from Santa Fe. Both drifters, both outdoor folk who live the majority of the year on the road... We don't need for much but within that are in pursuit of the genuine and golden hearted.
And we found that in Greenleaf and our host Jamie.
And we fell into that night fondly.
And we fell into the next the same... we stayed an additional night to take in all that this incredible place has to offer.
Jamie and Murphy were wonderful. From the first moment we pulled in and were met with nothing but ease upon arrival- we knew quickly that they were friends. Comfortable, accommodating, and easy, great reads of space and absolutely professional -this campground is run impeccably and is an absolute treat to visit.
I will absolutely be back on any swing across the Southwest.
Thank you Jamie for making the stay so special. It is a total pleasure to know you and to have experienced your space.
Until the paths cross.
